NPP Presidential Primaries: Flagbearer Should Be One Who Worked For Party Since Establishment- Kwabena Agyapong

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

Flagbearer Hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has said that those who joined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) later and took on important roles right away should not be chosen to lead the party in the 2024 general elections.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong stated that rather than individuals who entered through the mainstream and rapidly took prominent jobs, party leaders should be people who have worked persistently for the party since its founding.

On Tuesday, July 11, Mr. Agyepong stressed the need for a candidate who has been active with the party since its founding, during the official launch of his campaign in Accra.

In addition to emphasizing the value of allowing individuals who have worked hard for the party to lead, he introduced himself as the new face who is best suited for the organization.

Mr. Agyepong emphasized that the party could not, however, nominate candidates who contributed to Ghanaians’ current position and hope that Ghanaians will support them in the 2024 elections. In order to rebuild the essential base and win the confidence of the populace, he highlighted the necessity for a fresh face, a set of clean hands, and a leader. He also humbly agreed to offer Ghana the possibility of a new beginning.

“It’s a matter of public record that I always availed myself for this tradition. More importantly, the run-up to the 1992 elections, under the Rawlings dictatorship, when it was life-risky to associate with the NPP. I’m not a newcomer, I didn’t join NPP through the mainstream after the danger has abated. I have served this party right from the get-go in many capacities. I was there when it mattered most, and also when the party was at the peak of its story.

“I gathered valuable experiences sitting at the revered feet of our people, like De Rocha, Peter Ala Adjetey, Albert Adu Boahen, T.D Mends, R.R Amponsah, J.H Mensah, former Vice President Aliu Mahama and of course my boss J.A Kufuor, who I dutifully served for over 5 years.”

He also urged the party’s delegates to support him in the primary elections.

“I have served this party, selflessly and sacrificed for this country. l learned and patiently climbed the ladder. In all humility, I come to you Ghanaians to ask for your support. I wish to serve you as flagbearer and eventually as the President. Mine is a burning desire to serve the party and Ghana with a clear conscience, pure motive and solid character. I promise inclusive leadership.”

NPP Should Not Present Candidates Who Contributed To Current Economic Issues

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in his opinion, averred that the delegates should not elect people to lead the party for the 2024 general elections who were unsuccessful during the Akufo-Addo administration.

The former John Agyekum Kufuor spokesperson moreover, stressed the significance of choosing people who can successfully address the difficulties facing the country.

“We must be honest enough to admit that the Akufo-Addo government despite chalking successes in health in roads and infrastructure, tourism and of course education, has struggled to deliver on a number of fronts. We started out to say that we are breaking the dependence on Western aid.

“The slogan, Ghana Beyond Aid run from the Jubilee House with intensity and vigour but today we lie on a stretcher before the International Monetary Fund. Today, Ghana has become a case of how not to do it. It is true that the international climate has been hostile, but how many countries have had inflation hitting through the roofs? These are stark signals of economic distress and we cannot hide these facts. We have had to endure a painful debt exchange with our pensioners laying siege at the Finance Ministry.”
