AG Aware Of OSPs Probe Into Dapaah’s Source Of Wealth- Deputy AG

Alfred-Tuah Yeboah

Deputy Attorney-General, Alfred-Tuah Yeboah, has revealed that the AG’s office is aware that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is handling the case and that is why the Attorney-General is not questioning the origin of the money kept by former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resource, Cecilia Abena Dapaah at her home.

According to Mr. Tuah-Yeboah, the Attroney-General does not want to disagree with the OSP and so, it leaves the case in the OSP’s hands.

“We do not know the extent of the investigations done by the police in connection with the source of those amounts. But we are aware that another statutory body, the OSP, is also investigating other matters in connection with the matter. So we will not go into a situation where we will want to be in conflict with the OSP.

“The OSP has the mandate in investigating the source of that particular money and the lifestyle audit. We are also looking at what the police have done so far to see whether what the Police did is something that we can use in prosecuting or not to prosecute.”

Meanwhile, according to a police announcement, it was able to find some of the things that were taken from the residence of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former minister of sanitation and water resources.

After Mr. Daniel Osei-Kuffour and Hon. Cecilia Dapaah reported a theft to the police, the police launched an investigation, detained some suspects, found some of the stolen goods, and then charged the suspects. Since then, the Police have sent the docket to the Ministry of Justice and Office of the Attorney General for assessment and guidance.

According to Mr. Tuah-Yeboah, the Attorney General is looking through the police reports on people who are suspected of stealing Madam Dapaah’s money.

As stated by Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, the Attorney General is currently reviewing the dockets for the inquiries into the suspected theft of funds from the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Dapaah. He said; “The Attorney-General is going to review the docket to see whether there is any basis for the prosecution or to see whether more charges will be needed apart from what we have now.”

Adom-Otchere Makes Disclosure About Dapaah’s Stolen Cash

Troubled former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s deceased brother, according to sources, left behind US$800,000, which two of her house helpers took in 2022 along with US$200,000 from her.

This was revealed by Paul Adom-Otchere, who cited police complaint paperwork that the Minister and her husband submitted, after realizing they had misplaced a sizable amount of money at their private Accra property.

He explained that their mother, who also transmitted the funds to Cecilia Dapaah, received the money from their late brother, a sub-chief of the Asantehene.

“The US$800,000 was reported to the police and described to belong to Cecilia Dapaah’s brother… as is on the charge sheet. This 800,000 dollars is controversial because it doesn’t belong to Cecilia Dapaah and her husband. According to what Cecilia Dapaah wrote to the police, which is what is in the charge sheet right now as I am speaking to you…And it was written months ago. It is for her brother who died months ago at the age of 60.”

Adom-Otchere also went into great detail regarding the origin of additional cash sums that were found to have been taken by the housemaids.

Adom-Otchere claimed that records he had seen, proved that the money was declared as belonging to the husband, in contrast to the official police charge sheet that claimed the former Minister was the rightful owner of the €300,000 also stolen.

Before asking the public to decide if the stated persons had the ability to raise the requested quantities, he provided information regarding the spouse, an architect, and the late brother’s business interests.
