Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a Flagbearer hopeful for New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for a moral and upstanding campaign in the party’s elections and referred to the race as a “family contest.”
He said that the other nine candidates all hail from the same ancestral root and therefore there should be no infighting.
As a result, the Vice President has commanded his supporters to stop from verbally attacking other candidates running to be the party’s flagbearers in the upcoming general elections, either directly or indirectly.
Dr. Bawumia, one of ten candidates in the race, emphasized the challenging factor the party faces in the run-up to the 2024 elections and the importance of conducting an ethical campaign.
“As a family, all factions must recognize that a united front is necessary to confront the NDC,” Dr. Bawumia stated in Kumasi during a campaign tour to party delegates.
“I have instructed all my supporters and spokespersons that we must conduct a clean campaign, avoiding any form of insults.”

Moreover, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of cooperation and said that after the election, they would unite as a strong force to prevent the NDC from regaining power.
On November 4, the NPP will choose its flagbearer for the 2024 elections. Ten flagbearer aspirants have been given the go-ahead to take part in the next elections. Prior to the election on November 4, the party has arranged a special delegate meeting on August 26 in order to whittle down the field of candidates running to lead the party in the 2024 elections to just five.
“One Constituency 10 Appointments Policy”
A “One Constituency 10 Appointments Policy” has been proclaimed by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
All 275 of Ghana’s constituencies would be given the chance to have a representative on various boards and organizations of the government under this program.
Vice President Bawumia noted that previous governments had frequently overlooked the constituencies during appointments, which had been a source of concern for people, in remarks made following an engagement with some delegates at the Awutu Senya East constituency.
“Party loyalists tell me that when the party is voted into power to form a government, they are left out in the processes of governance. That is why I’m coming up with three initiatives which I believe that if effectively utilised the party and the government will be well integrated. The first one is appointments. Anytime there are appointments, the constituencies normally say they have been left out.
“So what I will do is that in governance, a president can make about 7000 appointments, and we have 275 constituencies which we will add one more next year to make them 276. So, my plan is that some of the 7000 appointees can come from the constituencies. My proposal is that one constituency, 10 appointments. Doing that will ensure that all the constituencies will have a total of 2760 appointments.”
