Dorries claims she is still at post as an MP and has been serving her constituents.

Dorries claims she is still at post as an MP and has been serving her constituents.

With growing calls from Tory party officials, opposition parties, and council officials from her constituency to resign, Nadine Dorries has declined calls for her to vacate her post as Mid Bedfordshire MP.

Dorries claimed that, she has been performing her role as an MP, even though the Tory party has stripped off her Whip duties. On the contrary, constituents in Mid Bedfordshire have been posting “missing” flyers and poster, as a sign of demonstrations against the MP.

Council officials from Shefford and Flitwict in the Mid Bedfordshire, have registered their displeasure with the member of parliament. The officials claimed that, the constituency lacks proper representation, and has been abandoned by the MP.

Dorries responded to the criticisms, stating that, “political opponents, such as Labour-run Flitwick town council are choosing the summer and news-hungry outlets in the summer recess to be noted. We are just getting on with the work.”

Nadine Dorries has explained that, her resignation comment was in protest against the removal of her name from Boris Johnson’s departure peerage list. She further stated that, no explanation has been given on why her name was blocked from the list.

The chair of the Commons women and equalities committee, Caroline Nokes, a Tory MP, has admonished the embattled MP to “crack on” and leave, since she desires not the position again.

“She shouldn’t have the Tory whip if she’s made it plain that she no longer wishes to be a Conservative MP but can’t take that final step towards resignation. I think she needs to crack on and do that.”

“There is, of course, the situation that MPs cannot be sacked unless by a recall petition and certainly Nadine has not done anything to trigger that. But her heart’s not in it and if your heart’s not in it, then you shouldn’t be taking up a seat that somebody who wishes to represent the people of that constituency with heart and soul could be doing.”

On the other hand, Prime Minister Sunak, implied that, Mid Bedfordshire does not have any representation in Parliament, criticizing Nadine Dorries for being an absentee MP.

Keir Starmer, the leader of the opposition Labour Party in Parliament, has challenged the Prime Minister to facilitate the quick departure of the MP. Starmer said the Prime Minister need to “get a grip on the circumstance and expel the Member of Parliament”

“We have got Peter Kyle who is the MP for Brighton & Hove, he is our political lead in Mid Bedfordshire and he is doing more work than Nadine Dorries up there.”

“I don’t know what her dictionary definition of immediate effect is, but 10 weeks after the event doesn’t seem to be immediate effect. She has got to go. Give Mid Bedfordshire an MP who will actually stand up for them, fight for them, because at the moment she is absolutely absent. I would say to Rishi Sunak, get a grip of this. This is one of your MPs, do something about it, force the issue and get on with it.”

The ruling government and the opposition parties have planned to hold a bye-election for her constituency, but are caught in uncertainty, because the MP has failed to honor her promise of resigning.

Weighing in to the argument, Former Deputy Prime Minister Damian Green, described Nadine Dorries attitude as an embarrassment to parliament.

“I just think she’s not just damaging parliament, she is damaging her own reputation as well. Having said she’s going to go, it would be in everyone’s interest if she just went”
