NPP Super Delegates Conference: Real Battle Is November 4- Sylvester Tetteh

Sylvester Tetteh

Hon Sylvester Tetteh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor-Ngleshi Amanfro Constituency, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is more than prepared for the Super Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26, However, he claimed the real fight will take place on November 4 when the general delegates vote to choose the party’s flagbearer.

He asserted that anyone, NPP member or not, could readily name three of the ten candidates running for the role of flagbearer, namely Alan Kyerematen, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Kennedy Agyapong. As a result, he argued that the Super Delegates Conference was only intended to choose two supplementary names in addition to the three that were already well-known.

“So, the Saturdays election is seeking to add 2 more to these three gentlemen I’ve mentioned. For us, you know our rounds. Yes, we speak to everybody that matters towards Nov 4. Saturday, the delegates are part. The only group of people we are going to meet before Saturday is the diasporan delegates who will be joining us. Some are even arriving tonight. Alan Kyerematen is even on his way to the Northern Region today. I think he should be in Tamale already.

“Yesterday we met the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our party. Weve met everybody who need to be spoken to, in respect to the Super Delegates Conference. But we are not looking at that, we are looking beyond the Super Delegates Conference. Obviously, Alan Kyermaten is part of the 5. The real game is the Nov 4. That is where we are selling our candidate, we are crisscrossing the country and we are working.”

Analysis Made About Primaries Meant To Whitewash Aspirants

Sylvester Tetteh cited an analysis that predicted that certain people would lead in the polls by 90% and asserted that such figures continued to decline as the Super Delegates Conference date drew nearer.

He averred that the percentage dropped from 90% to 60% and that such figures couldn’t be trusted since they were intended to discredit candidates.

Additionally, the MP stated that even if such figures were accurate, he would still defeat them in his constituency. Furthermore, he stated that the Super Delegates Conference will present a very interesting scenario towards November 4, when over 208,000 delegates will be gathered to choose a leader for the party.

“We’ve made a point and we are still making a point that they should put a candidate that has the less risk of losing the next elections. I mean, people keep talking about breaking the 8. Whiles you talk about breaking the 8, you may be losing fact of the other side of the coin. Because there are two sides of the coin, either you win or you lose. In politics, there is no draw, if there is a draw, you’ll still go for a run-off.

“So, for me, I think that electorates should be looking at who poses the less risk for the NPP in winning the 2024 elections and I think that is Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. We’ve made that point clear. So, on Saturday, we are hoping that all these 17 polling stations could be put together at one venue. The party could put about 4000 delegates in Accra sports stadium to cast a vote. We cannot put 900 people together alone because the logistics of the cost of running Saturday’s elections, we are all seeing it.”

Sylvester Tetteh

Also, he stressed that the NPP had moved past the point where it had conducted its internal elections improperly. He said they have trained their operatives, are ready, and have sent them out.

“We are grateful to the National Executives, we’ve had the album for one month before the elections, we’ve gone through the album, there are names that we felt should not be in it, we’ve challenged them and they’ve been taken out of the album. This is a mark of diligence and we’ve gone through the process.”
