Bawumia Cannot Be Complacent Because Real Kingmakers Will Be At The Grassroots- Gyampo

NDC Elections: I Expect A Healthy Contest And Outcome Reflective Of The Wishes Of People- Prof Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo, Political Scientist.

Political science lecturer, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has cautioned Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to avoid being complacent because the real kingmakers will be at the grassroots where both Alan and Ken are likely to make huge incursions.

According to him, he has seen the first three winners in the NPP Super-Delegates Elections, and his preliminary thoughts are that, nothing is surprising about the placements of the first three. He revealed that the majority of the delegates were “politically made” by the establishment and their continuous stay in office as appointees, and even as elected people, is based on the support of the establishment.

Due to this, Prof Gyampo stated that they couldn’t have varied their votes.

Moreover, he stated that Kennedy Agyapong also garnered his kind of great show among those who felt they could get his support in terms of money in their future electoral and political endeavors. With this, he explained that My Agyapong could be a kingmaker and would easily nominate some of these guys for positions.

Nonetheless, he stated that what makes him a serious force in the future is that, he is also a very much grassroots person.

“So, our Veep cannot be complacent because the real kingmakers will be at the grassroots where both Alan and Ken are likely to make huge incursions, according to very scientific data on the NPP delegate preferences. He, Alan and Ken must therefore work harder.”

Prof Ransford Gyampo

Furthermore, Prof Gyampo indicated that the future of the NPP Presidential Aspirant race is “heavily pregnant with definitely hugely uncertain” possibilities. In light of this, he emphasized that more work must be done by the Vice President to get to the grassroots; “more work must be done by Alan to win more people at the top, as he’s likely to put up a better show among the grassroots in November; and Ken, the maverick, must work harder to appeal to both segments of the delegates.”

“Those who have just voted can still change their mind towards any direction; no one must be complacent and no one must give up. Delegates at the grassroots must remain fired up to decide who must lead the party according to only their conscience, and never the outcome of the just ended exercise.”

Following this, the political scientist congratulated all the aspirants, “especially our Veep, Ken, and Alan”.

Brutal acts have no place in modern society

Meanwhile, former President, John Dramani Mahama, has condemned the pockets of violence that erupted at the super delegates conference held by the NPP to whittle down their flagbearer aspirants to five. He revealed that it would appear that violence has become the new normal for the NPP in any electoral contest it is involved in.

However, he stated that acts of violence during what should be a peaceful civic exercise must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

“Such brutal acts have no place in modern society, especially during an internal contest among persons who belong to the same party and have known each other for many years. This is detrimental to democracy.”

John Dramani Mahama

Recounting what he described as the “barbarity of Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019 and the murder of eight innocent Ghanaians” during the 2020 elections, Mr Mahama stated that those bleak incident will forever be a blot on the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia.
