NPP Primaries: Alan Kyerematen Urged To Throw In The Towel

Upcoming Elections Leveraged On Candidate And Campaign Panache- Alan Cash

Alan Kyerematen

Former Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in New Juaben North constituency, Chairman Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang, has called on flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyerematen to throw in the towel.

In the presidential primary elections scheduled for November 4, 2023, Chairman Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang claimed that withdrawing from the campaign will spare the former Trade Minister from public humiliation.

After the Super Delegates Conference on August 26, Alan Kyerematen startled many by finishing third. The Alan campaign team, however, stated that they wanted to be one of the five candidates. This is due to their conviction that the over 200, 000 grassroots delegates who will participate in the elections on November 4, would have an impact.

Others also believe that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, would win the presidential primary because of the influence of people who cast ballots in the special elections.

Mr. Boateng-Agyemang agreed with this and said that calling on Alan Kyerematen to resign is a positive move.

“Alan should just throw in the towel because the MPs and chairmen who voted in the Super Delegates Conference have influence on the delegates at the grassroots.”

Chairman Kwadwo Boateng-Agyemang

Given the effort done at the local level, the former NPP New Juaben Chairman, who is also a member of the Bawumia team, predicted a landslide victory for them in November. He asserted that Alan Kyerematen, a statesman, should join the victorious team and put the interests of the NPP above his personal interests.

“Bawumia is the divine leader for NPP to break the eight and he will be elected flagbearer”, Mr. Boateng-Agyemang added.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Claims To Have Been Hackled By Alan Supporters

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader, acknowledged that some Alan Kyerematen campaign supporters heckled him during the most recent super delegates conference.

He said that some ‘gross misrepresentation’ regarding a problem he had addressed on a radio station was the cause of the heckling.

“Well, somebody had raised an issue that I had said that if a person obtained 70% of the votes, then there shouldn’t be any second round. It was gross misinformation that was being peddled because I had not said so anywhere.”

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

He clarified what he had said at the radio station and explained that what had been relayed to the delegates was a misconception of the same.

“I was at Abusua FM and one of the key supporters of Alan I was told, had been at Abusua and she’s called Hilda Addo. Kwadwo Marfo is the host there, so he was the one who told me the woman has said that if a person garnered 90, 95% then the rest of them should have a rethink and asked me what I thought about it. And I said well, our constitution provides that if there are five people there should be a rerun involving the five who come atop. However, if that is the principle that she’s espousing then, why the figure 90-95% and not 70%?

“If anybody could garner 70%, it will then mean the person has really secured for himself a head start and he’s in an unassailable lead. And I quickly added, even if we come out with five of them, there will be a person in the lead. So, we have them together with the person in the lead making five. So, out of the four, if three indicate that ‘well we’re bowing out’ and one doesn’t, there would still have to be a rerun. So I said that is the position of the constitution. I don’t think that the four of them who will follow after the person who emerges first will bow out, so the constitution should be allowed to play out. That’s what I said.”

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu

Also, the majority leader said he was disturbed by the heckling “because I thought it was sheer pedestrianism and people were contriving to bring violence, so I ignored them because there was no truth in that.”
