Ghanaian media personality, Ola Michael has slammed artists who claim the media does not help them.

According to him, artists work hand in hand with the media so it will be very difficult for him to accept that there is a rivalry between them.

He asserted:

“I’ll be very surprised with anybody who will think there is any rivalry or enmity between the media and the artists”.

Ola Michael

He further stated that people have different ways of understanding and processing issues when they hear someone say something about an artist.

Ola Michael cited an example where a fan is pained by what the media says about an artist making the fan think the media hates that artist, adding that people thinking the media does not support an artist is born out of insensitivity.

He said:

“In advanced countries, people actually rent homes closer to celebrity’s homes just to spy on them. What are they looking for? Let’s take it as a journalist is paid and a house is rented close to Stonebwoy, just to spy on him, and get something out of him, and that is part of the job. It doesn’t mean they hate you. It means they are also working.

“When an artist releases a song and the media does talk about it, where’s the song going? Do you think your social media alone can do it? No, it can’t”.

Ola Michael

He further revealed:

“The best medium we have which is even wider is the microphone, and that’s where we discuss them”.

Ola Michael

The media personality revealed that people who think that the media does not support artists could be one who does not understand the job of the media or does not appreciate the media.

He recounted when he used to have a tall list of underground artists but couldn’t finish with them and when the artists became known, they troll the media for not supporting them.

He said:

“Who helped you to the top? Who made people get to know you? So you see, maybe we’re asking for too much from the media. Maybe we’re being ungrateful or maybe we’re just being vile.

“Even if you troll the media, whether we play your song or not, we are still doing what we do”.

Ola Michael reveals Shatta Wale’s song made him popular

Ola Michael revealed that Shatta Wale’s song did not hurt him but rather made him popular.

He said that it all is about how one receives a piece of information and how the information is used by the person.

He recalled:

“Shatta Wale’s song did not hurt me but rather made me popular. There was a time he granted an interview, and after the closure of the interview, I met him at the entrance and he told me ‘Daddy I want you to come and manage me’. This wasn’t the first he had said this to me and I told him ‘I want to talk to you one day but I want to talk to Bandana and not Shatta Wale’. He kept quiet for some minutes and kept staring at me.

“At that time I had started investigating his personality trait and I realized there was a problem so I wanted to talk to Bandana first before I talk to Shatta Wale”.

Ola Michael

He further stated the reason he wanted to talk to Bandana and not Shatta Wale was because he wanted to trace the source to see if his assumptions were really right, adding that when conversations are stuck to Bandana and not Shatta Wale, a different side of him is seen.

He disclosed:

“Shatta Wale is the advance or the product of Bandana but Bandana is the source of the issue. But you will not know, Bandana is the struggle moment. Bandana is the grassroot of the product you’re seeing now. He struggled. People didn’t believe in him. People didn’t support him. They lloked down on him”.

Ola Michael

Ola Michael revealed that Shatta Wale went through struggles in life, people didn’t believe in him, didn’t get support and people looked down on him, adding that these struggles in life and the environment he grew up in made him who he is today.

He said:

“This is why I wanted to speak to Bandana and not Shatta Wale and know the struggles he went through so that we will appreciate him.

“The more you talk about him. The more you fuel the controversies around him. That is what keeps him going. That is what makes him happy. That is what entices his ego. If we stop talking about him for a month or two in the whole of Ghana, something will happen”.
