Ghanaian gospel musician and songwriter Perez Musik known for his contemporary Ga songs has disclosed that he never liked Gospel songs and never listened to them.

According to him, he used to be a hiplife person and knew the history behind hiplife, adding that he had nothing to do with gospel songs.

“I never liked gospel songs. I used to be a hiplife person. Those times when we went to school, I had a friend called Moses whom I used to compete with him buying hiplife cassettes every week”, Perez Musik revealed.

He recalled how he lost his studio after failing to listen to God.

The gospel artist revealed that before his studio got burnt, he was going to buy new equipment for his studio, adding that he heard a voice telling him not to go and buy the equipment but he turned deaf ears to the voice.

“Immediately I entered the studio, I heard a voice telling me that I should sell the equipment in the studio and take the money to church but I did not listen, rather I went ahead to buy it, and in less than 2 months, the studio got burnt”, he noted.

Perez Musik noted that he felt that his studio getting burnt was God’s way of communicating something to him in order for him to get his attention on God even though he really cried due to the loss of his studio to a fire outbreak.

“The equipment I had those times, was my God. A young boy who has sound equipment, studio monitors, and area boys coming around. I was very very happy and I used to feel very good but I realized that there is more to life than that”, he stated.

He revealed that he should have used the money to buy a piece of land at Kasoa rather than buy the new equipment.

Also, he revealed that he realized a lot after his studio got burnt. “After the studio got burnt, I realized that no, there is more to life; And there’s more to my essence and my existence on earth than just what I was doing so in order to put more purpose and meaning to what I was doing, I decided to seek God. And looking for Him [God], I got a correct meaning for my life and a correct direction as to what he wants me to do”, Perez Musik revealed.

Moments in life before becoming born again

Perez Musik shared moments he lived in the past, adding that he did everything that must be done before he became a born again.

He noted that the burning of his studio made him realize the existence of God and how wonderful God is.

“I think It started from the burnt studio because God broke the things I had faith in, the friendships, the people around me that I gave my all to…He took away everything from me to realize that apart from him, there is no other person aside Him [God]. Growing up, I had that calling but I didn’t really pay attention to it and I wanted to follow my own path”.

The “Hewale Lala” hitmaker further stated that one can easily sway in the music industry if one is not strong and careful in what they do especially as a gospel artist.

He disclosed how he used to travel, go to the club with his friends, and go to work right after trips on the weekend. “It wasn’t worth it at all. Everything that must be done I think I did”, Perez Musik said.

Also, he confessed that even after being born again, he feels tempted to go back to his old lifestyle.

“I’m not going to sit here and pretend or lie. I’ll be very honest. Our walk with God is like a new born baby. It is a journey. After giving my life to Christ, the knowledge I have now is not the same as the knowledge I had before when I started. So there are times I will fall and there are times but I will rise up… The most important thing is stay focus and keep going because it is not easy”.

Perez Musik

He revealed that it was a wilderness process for him after he got separated from his wife in 2018, adding that it happened because he thought he was not too mature for it.
