Mpiani Blames Akuffo Addo For Partly Being Responsible For NPP’s Current Problems

Mpiani Blames Akuffo Addo For Partly Being Responsible For NPP’s Current Problems

The former Chief of Staff and Minister of Presidential Affairs during President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, has accused President Akuffo Addo for partly been responsible for the problems facing the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In response to Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the New Patriotic Party, the party stalwart said the party’s issues started the day Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong were wrongfully ousted from their positions as National Chairman and General Secretary, respectively.

The former Member of Parliament for Mampong South in the Ashanti Region under the Third Republic, serving from 1979 to 1981, claimed that once Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong were ousted, Nana Akufo-Addo had his way, and that pattern has persisted to the present day.

The elderly stateman claimed that following the election of the previous Chairman and General Secretary, he participated in sessions to address the problems that surfaced, but there was no progress, only for them to be removed from office.

“What I am saying is that there was this problem, and the party in its wisdom decided to give the party to the Candidate Akufo-Addo, who’s now President Akufo-Addo. He is part of the problem. All of us are part, and he is part of the problem.”

Alan’s Resignation From NPP Is Unfortunate

Despite describing Alan’s departure and subsequent decision as regrettable, the well-known Kufuor loyalist agreed with him in general that there are issues within the party.

Despite the fact that he claimed Alan did not consult him before making his choice, he claimed he was neither surprised nor opposed to it.

“There have been problems with the party except that those of us in the party are trying to behave like ostriches and not seeing what’s in the party. I was not too much surprised about what happened because I have been telling colleagues that the way the party is going, if we are not lucky, there are going to be more serious upheavals in the future.”

Kwadwo Mpiani

Mpiani further admonished that the New Patriotic Party should go back to its beliefs and try to live according to such beliefs. He believes if the party does that, it will be able to recover from its current challenges.

“Well, we should try to recover. The party has its antecedents which go as far as the 1950s when we became a United Party, and it has a very long history”.

Kwadwo Mpiani

Mr Mpiani also indicated that the resignation of Mr. Alan Kyerematen from the New Patriotic Party is going to affect the party especially its chances in the 2024 General Elections. According to him, it was normal for party executives to downplay the impact of Alan’s exit, but behind the scenes, they won’t take it lightly.

He also noted that he cannot predict the political career of the Mr Alan Kyerematen as that it is the sole decision of Mr Alan Kyeremmaten.

According to Mr. Mpiani , this is not the first time Alan is quitting the party. After the 2007 presidential primaries where he contested against Akufo-Addo, he raised issues with the process and went ahead to resign. However, after the party promised to address his concerns, he returned to the NPP, only to resign again now to contest the national election as an independent candidate.

The former flagbearer aspirant for New Patriotic Party presidential primaries, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party on Monday, September 25, 2023, and claims that the New Patriotic Party has been hijacked by a select few who intimidate those that are in disagreement with them.
