BoG Governor Is A Colossal Failure- Sam George

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has cautioned the newly elected National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, against making loose comments about him.

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has described the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, as a colossal failure.

According to him, Dr Addison is a “coward”, because there is a strong possibility that he will delegate some of his deputies to receive the petition of the minority. He explained that this is not going to be the first time the Governor avoids the minority.

Sam George indicated that he has served on the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament for seven years and at least every year, Dr Addison is invited twice to appear before the committee because of the Auditor General’s report.

However, he noted that “Dr. Addison himself has appeared before the Public Accounts Committee maybe two or three times in seven years”.

“He’s a coward, he runs away from his own work, from his own failings. Most times he sends his deputy, Maxwell, and I won’t be surprised that today it will be Maxwell who would have the balls to come out.  Addison himself won’t come out. Addison is a coward and I’m putting it to him, ‘you’re a coward and you have failed. You’re a colossal failure.”

Elaborating on the minority’s decision to protest for the BoG Governor’s resignation, Sam George revealed that the performance of the Central Bank has been abysmal. He indicated that this has spiraled into the hardships experienced by Ghanaians.

“Because look, let’s call a spade a spade, we have 196 central banks for 196 countries across the world. In 2022, the Central Bank of Ghana came last. We had the worst performing currency in the world. Our currency was worse than the currency of Yemen, was worse than the currency of Syria, worse than the currency of South Sudan, worse than the currency of Ukraine, Zimbabwe – our currency was worse.

“So, if you sent your child to school and the teacher you asked to teach your child or the lesson teacher who is teaching your child at home goes to write the licensure exams and comes, last would you continue?”

BoG Governor criticized for siphoning funds

Moreover, the Ningo-Prampram legislator expressed his disappointment in the dealing of the BoG Governor, revealing that “what even annoys us as young people the most is that in 2022, they increased their allowance by 100% and paid themselves 8.7 million as allowances for coming last”.

This, he indicated, is the failing of the governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Meanwhile, member of parliament for Wa Central, Rashid Pelpuo, has expressed optimism in the ongoing protest. Describing it as very good, he highlighted that “enthusiasm and commitment” are equally high.

Mr Pelpuo stated that protestors are fighting to relieve Ghana from the troubles it is going through under President Akfuo-Addo, supported by a “fraudulent Bank of Ghana that wasted so much money”.

“… So, it’s important for us to demonstrate our anger and our frustrations because this is a government that we had confidence in because of the promises they had made and see what Bawumia said about Bank of Ghana being our source of income, that there was so much money in Bank of Ghana. Today, after spending everything in Bank of Ghana, they have overshot the balance by GHC66 billion… We all know it’s a source of siphon to private pockets. We can’t be in a country with this kind of things happening around us.”
