Enam Hadzide Chastises Sam George For Calling BOG Head Of Security ‘A Watchman’

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the National Youth Authority (NYA), Pius Enam Hadzide has chastised Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency for calling the Head of Security at the Bank of Ghana as a ‘watchman’.

The New Patriotic Party parliamentary aspirant in the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region described the comment as unfortunate not befitting the legislator.

He therefore called on the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament to apologize unreservedly to the man for his distasteful comment.

“In the first place let me start with the outright disrespect of Sam George to the Head of Security at the Bank of Ghana. I thought Sam you have a golden opportunity to apologize and move forward. We all make mistakes, upon several reflections I guess you would not have used those words you used yesterday against the man who I believe when he started his public service you would have been in crèche.

Before he joined the Bank of Ghana, he served in the military for 26 years and has served in many United Nations missions successfully; a man of many repute. Maybe you didn’t know, kindly apologize and admit this was faux par but I see a spirited attempt of trying to defend it and blame the NPP”.

#OccupyBOGProtest By Minority Caucus Needless

Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide further asserted that the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress #OccupyBOGProtest was needless.

He argued that the Minority Caucus and the National Democratic Congress were only motivated by the political gains they would gain from embarking on the protest.

Mr. Pius also noted that there was no need for the Minority Caucus in Parliament, the organizers of the #OccupyBOGProtest failing to present its petition to the team delegated by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to receive it on behalf of the Governor.

He believes the current economic challenges the country faces are as a result of Covid-19 which has been worsened by the Russian-Ukraine war.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George berated the Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Ernest Addison, for failing to show up to receive a petition from the Minority demanding his removal.

Mr. George claims that Dr. Addison snubbed the Minority because of the large crowd that participated in the #OccupyBoGprotest.

In a media interview on Wednesday, October 4, Mr George insisted that the NDC MPs will not relent on their demands until the Governor resigns.

“We were told stories that he wasn’t well and later told that he would come and receive our petition, and we stood there for an hour and more and still failed to show up and sent a watchman to come and meet us. I’ve always maintained that man (Dr Ernest Addison) is a coward, and we will protest till he comes out to receive our petition”.

Samuel Nartey George

Yesterday, Tuesday 3rd October 2023, the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations, Progressive Forces and other well-meaning Ghanaians held its #OccupyBOGProtest.

The protestors accused Dr. Ernest Addison and his two deputies of gross mismanagement of the central bank, citing the over GHc60 billion loss by the Bank of Ghana as the basis for their call for their resignations.

The Minority Caucus in Parliament and the National Democratic Congress, the organizers of the #OccupyBoGProtest, have indicated that they will organize a series of protests if the Bank of Ghana (BOG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies refuse to resign.
