Kennedy Agyapong Visits Kufour To Mourn Madam Theresa’s Passing

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central and aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has visited former President Kufour to mourn the passing of former First Lady, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor.

According to Mr. Agyapong, the late First Lady was like a mother to him.

The Member of Parliament was welcomed warmly by members of the house. Many of them shouted his name “Akompreko” from a distance.

“The former first lady was like a mother to me. When they were staying in Accra, anytime I passed by, she knew I would go straight to the kitchen. I will go and prepare my own tea and coffee. As you can see, all the people of the house know me.”

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong

Reminiscing his days with her, he recounted times when he went astray and the former president would not mind him, knowing confidently that his wife would advise him (Mr. Agyapong) very well.

“I think she had that charisma too. Normally, when I speak very harshly, my old man will not talk to me. He will call the wife when I come around. Anytime that happened when I came around, it meant I had done something wrong. She will come, speak to me and advise me. Sometimes, you know, we go astray.”

He also touched on the unassuming and humble nature of the late Madam Kufuor.

“She was just a calm person. You will never know she was the first lady. I can confidently say that she was one of the first ladies who is always unassuming. If she has not been introduced to you as the First Lady, the way she behaved and received you, you will never know that she is the First Lady.”

“She has been good to me”, Mr. Agyapong soberly added.

He further prayed for her soul to rest in peace.

“I will say may her soul rest in peace. As for death, it will definitely come. And I know Madam is also gone, period.”

Meanwhile, Kennedy hinted on his father’s passing.

“Even though my father is dead today, I came here to pay homage to my very own mother. Sometimes it (death) is a relief because for the past year, what my dad has been through has been overwhelming. The pain grew so much that, sometimes, he professed his wish for death.”

Tributes For Madam Theresa Kufuor

On the passing of Mr. Theresa Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana, released a statement on the passing of the former first lady. In the statement, he extended his deepest condolences to President Kufuor and his family.

“My wife, Rebecca, the First Lady, and I will miss her a lot. We extend our deepest condolences to President Kufuor, their children, grandchildren, and members of their family on their irreplaceable loss.

“She was a composed and articulate First Lady, polyglot, fluent in several languages including Ewe, who brought great dignity to the position. I knew several members of her family, especially her celebrated brother, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to know her too. Her warmth, kindness, and grace were exceptional. She bore the vicissitudes of life with great stoicism and an unshakeable belief in the sovereignty of Almighty God.”
