NPP MP Expresses Optimism Of Dr Bawumia Breaking The ‘8’

Dr. Amidu Issahku Chinnia

The ruling New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the Sissala East Constituency in the Upper West Region, Dr. Amidu Issahaku Chinnia has expressed confidence in the Vice President, Dr Mahamudud Bawumia candidacy to win the 2024 general elections when elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party.

The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister indicated that the majority of the members of the New Patriotic Party are very convinced that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the right candidate to lead the New Patriotic Party to win the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Amidu Issahaku Chinnia also indicated that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s popularity within the party is mainly a result of his hard work, dedication and selfless service to the New Patriotic Party and Ghana as well.

“They say hard work pays, so I sincerely believe that it is the hard work over the period that has gotten him that massive support and the fact that many members within the party believe the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can break the eight. Since the inception of the fourth republic no party has gone beyond two terms and I know it is not going to be easy but the Vice President can lead the party to break the ‘8’. I believe it is the reason he is enjoying such massive support from everyone within the party”.

Again, the Sissala East legislator denounced claims that President Akufo-Addo through his comment intended to endorse the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumai ahead of the party’s flagbearerhip race scheduled on November 4 2023.

According to him, the delegates of the New Patriotic Party had already made their choice ahead of the party’s primaries and there was no way President Akufo-Addo’s comment would affect their choice of candidate on the day of the election.

“It was not a deliberate attempt by President Akufo-Addo to endorse the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. It was just a coincidence that the statement came at a time the party was preparing to go into primaries to elect the flagbearer”.

Moreover, the Member of Parliament for Sissala East Constituency, Dr Amidu Issahaku Chinnia further denied claims that some Members of Parliament have been whipped to support the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia‘s candidacy in the party’s presidential race.

According to him, his decision to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has nothing to do with the fact that he was whipped in line by some group but a decision based on his own intuition and preference.

“In this day and age can anybody force me as a member of Parliament who has been elected into office? First of all, I went through primaries and the delegates in my constituency elected me as the parliamentary candidate and I was elected as an MP. The determination whether I come back to Parliament or not is determined by the people in my constituency and not anyone in Accra. There is no way somebody  can gag me to support a candidate against my wishes”.

Dr Amidu Issahaku Chinnia also refuted claims that some Members of Parliament within the New Patriotic Party influence the selection and appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives in the various Assemblies.

According to Dr Amidu, there are many Members of Parliament who did not support the Metropolitan, Municipal Chief Executives that were appointed by President Akufo-Addo.

Meanwhile, the Director of Conflict Resolution of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Abraham Amaliba accused President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo of deliberately endorsing his Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the New Patriotic Party November 4 National Delegate Conference.

President Akufo-Addo on October 26 2023 during a visit by pupils and teachers of the Association International School at the Jubilee House stated that he chose Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate mainly due to his outstanding qualities of truthfulness, goal orientation, and unwavering commitment to achieving collective objectives.
