Sam George Issues 24 Hour Ultimatum To Police To Pull Down LGBTQI Billboards

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George Nartey

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said that he and his constituents will stop the Presidential Convoy if it goes through the constituency.

According to the Member of Parliament, this is to allow the President see for himself the poor level of development the constituency has suffered under his presidency.

This comes on the back of accusations leveled against the MP’s poor developmental impact within the constituency.

“Now, if he is saying that, I agree with him because I have served notice on a bridge in Ningo-Prampram that, if the President doesn’t work on it and I see him crossing my constituency, I will stop his convoy. I will stop the President’s convoy with my constituents.

“When the President was campaigning, was he not stopping and campaigning to the people? Have you not heard many times that the president was moving and a crowds came out and they came to say; we love you Mr. President or they stopped him and he stopped to address them?”

Sam Nartey George

“That one he was looking for votes so he stopped. Now, we have given him the votes so we can’t tell him [to stop]?”, he quizzed.

He expressed his frustrations after many attempts to get attention, particularly to fix the Afienya-Dowenya Bridge, failed. He recounts writing letters and visiting the Minister for Roads and Highways, all in futility.

He thus believes that the situation calls for drastic measures.

“There is no law against it. The President is not above the people who have given him power. We will stop him because he needs to see what is going on in Ningo Prampram. They are waiting for my constituents to die before they fix the footbridge. When I speak this way they think I just want to do politics but [it is not so]. Afienya Dowenya Bridge is an eye saw!

“They won’t fix it until a car summersaults in an accident and people die. Then you will see the government come there to come to commensurate and shed crocodile tears. For how long must I beg for people who pay taxes for a bridged?”

The Role Of MPs In Development

Responding to critical comments made by John Kwetey Mantse, an aspiring MP for the Ningo Prampram Constituency on the NPP ticket, Sam George emphasized that MPs are not the main drivers of development. He urged John Akwetey Mantse to understand the role of a Member of Parliament as he eyes the seat.

“If you are running and gunning for the office of the member of parliament and your promise is I am going to build you roads, I am going to build you hospitals or schools, [then] that person is a dishonest person who doesn’t have what it takes to be in parliament and the title Honorable because that person is peddling falsehood and deception.

“Why? As an MP you don’t get money to build roads. As an MP, you don’t have money to build roads or hospitals. So clearly, he is promising you the things that are functions of the district assembly and the executive government.”

Sam Nartey George

He emphasized that the current discussion pertains to the roads, with a specific focus on repairing the bridge. Thus, according to Sam George, such claims that there has been no development in the constituency falls on the President, who failed to address the roads over an extended period. Consequently, Sam George cannot be solely blamed.

Despite the negligence of the Central government., he believes the situation would have been worse without his efforts. He remains confident in his ability to serve as the elected MP for the constituency.

Hence, the MP believes the comments were rather an indictment on the aspiring MP, John Mantse Kwetey and the incumbent Nana Addo-led NPP government.
