The Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has admonished delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to choose among the four presidential aspirants one who is knowledgeable in economic development particularly the use of information technology.
According to the Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency in the Ashanti Region even though all the four candidates contesting the election to lead the party as its flagbearer for election 2024 per the constitution of the party qualify to contest, delegates should look at the one who stands tall among them in terms of the economy and information technology.
He noted that if delegates choose in such regard it would help achieve the New Patriotic Party’s governance agenda in the modern age of Ghana’s politics and the country’s needs which ultimately drive the expected national development agenda.
Majority Leader Endorses Dr. Bawumia
The Majority Leader further indicated that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has demonstrated his ability to transform the country’s economy which according to him calls for delegates of the party to give him the needed push on 4th November 2024.
The Honorable Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu strongly argued that the country’s economy is struggling not because the New Patriotic Party administration has been reckless in its management but rather due to the disruption of the global economy occasioned by the Russian-Ukraine war.
He accused the opposition National Democratic Congress of deliberately ignoring the country’s economic and trade relations it has with the two countries and mischievously engaging in propaganda to score a cheap political point.
“So I’m supporting Dr. Bawumia because of what I have seen in him. We are struggling in Ghana not because we have been reckless in government but because of the Russian-Ukraine war. The war has hurt our agricultural sector. This is because they are our main source of fertilizer and other food supplies. They are also one of our major suppliers of building construction materials. In parliament our opponent, the NDC once in Parliament questioned if the bombs were landing in Ghana forgetting our trade relationship with Ukraine”

Moreover, the Suame lawmaker described the National Democratic Congress and other New Patriotic Party Presidential candidates’ blame on the person of Vice President Dr Bawumia for mismanaging the economy as not substantial.
According to him, the President has his economic adviser who reviews and advises him on any proposal that comes to the president’s desk which means that the Vice President is not totally in charge of the economic Management team.
He noted that the Vice President can only propose but the power to accept or reject the proposal is at the discretion of the president.
“The Vice President was a member of the economic management team but was not entirely the direct handler of the economy. Under the late President John Evans Atta Mills did we blame his Vice President John Dramani Mahama for mismanaging the economy as the head of the economic management”.

He thus posited that the few policies the Vice President was allowed to lead the initiation and implementation impacted the country’s economy positively.
He called on the delegates of the New Patriotic Party to vote for the Vice President in tomorrow’s presidential primaries to realize his vision for Ghana through the use of technology among others.
“The impact of the digitalization drive as we know it is checking corruption and increasing government revenue correction making business transactions easy through the use of digital platforms. The gold for Oil policy has also helped and checked illegal gold transactions in Ghana and export.”

The New Patriotic Party National Delegates Conference is set to take place tomorrow, Saturday, 4th November 2023 to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
