Minority Serves Notice To Subject VEEP Claims To Scrutiny Ahead Of 2024 General Elections

Isaac Adongo-and-Dr Mahmudu Bawumia

The Minority in Parliament has issued a notice that it will subject all claims that would be made by the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer for the 2024 general election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to strict and thorough scrutiny ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to the press, the Ranking Member of Parliament Committee on Finance and Minority Spokesperson on the economy, Honorable Isaac Adongo questioned the basis of an article that has surfaced in the public domain titled ‘from a cleaner to a flag bearer’.

According to the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, the Minority Caucus in Parliament would not allow the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to deceive the good people of Ghana with misleading and false claims like he did in the 2016 general elections.

Mr Adongo further chastised the Vice President for deliberately and conveniently telling a story about his background that makes his father appear irresponsible.

He thus asserted that the Vice President and the New Patriotic Party flagbearer for the 2024 general elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia grew up from a privileged background, hence the Vice President should stop painting a picture that he grew up from a ‘poor home’.

“I want to tell my brother that if he wants to know what poverty is then he has to be reborn. He should stop creating false images of poverty to associate his life with. Because he was a privileged child. If you read the story it was very silent about his father. So you will think that he was born to a poor illiterate family. Dr. Bawumia’s father was a minister of state in the first republic for the entire northern territory. He became the Minister for Agriculture and cabinet minister at the time. Is he suggesting that his father was an irresponsible man and didn’t take care of him? So tell him to stop painting his father black”

Kennedy Agyapong’s Team Expresses Doubt Of His Active Involvement In Election 2024 Campaign

Meanwhile, a member of the Kennedy Agyapong Campaign Team during the New Patriotic Party Presidential Primaries, Lawyer Ralph Agyapong has stated that the Assin Central Member of Parliament would limit his participation in campaigning for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the Assin Central Legislator has been vilified and bastardized mainly due to his selfless and dedicated service to the New Patriotic Party throughout the party’s presidential primaries by some leading members of the Vice President Campaign Team.

“I am happy you mentioned Mr Alan Kyerematen’s name because for him some members of the party did not mention his ten sins, unlike Mr Kennedy Agyapong. The Vice President Camp communicated the ten sins of Honorable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong ahead of the primaries. But these are all things that he [Kennedy Ohene Agyapong] did in the name of defending the New Patriotic Party which has brought the party thus far. For instance in Odododiodio Constituency when Honorable Ursula Owusu Ekuful and Honorable Abu Jinapor were attacked it was Honorable Kennedy Agyapong who spoke against it but later he was accused of insulting Ewes in the country and through the process he was even charged for treason”.

Additionally, Lawyer Ralph Agyapong stated that even though Mr Kennedy Agyapong would campaign for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections, his involvement would not be like he used to do in the past.

“If they [the party] come and tell him [Kennedy Agyapong] to play A or B role and he [Kennedy Agyapong] cannot do it he will let them [the party] know. Some members of the Vice President Team have made damming statements against him [Kennedy Agyapong] so this time around he [Kennedy Agyapong] would like to preserve his dignity and integrity. He is 63 years of age; he is no more a child”.
