Popular afrobeat musician, Camidoh, has stated that he would never blame the media for the low promotion of his projects in the media space.

Speaking on some of his recent projects, including “Brown Skin” and “Kaba”, which many claimed were poorly promoted by his management, he acknowledged the situation and promised to do better to promote his songs.

He stated that he has been discussing the issue with his team and would put more effort into promoting his music. “I’ve been going back and forth with my team; it’s not too late, I’ll still put energy,” he stated.

Camidoh stated emphatically that he does not blame the media for their poor promotion of his songs but rather his team for its abysmal performance.

“I don’t blame the media; I always put the anger on the team, my team. I say to them, If you make a product and you don’t let people know about the product, will you say people are sleeping on you? Give it to them; if they don’t take it, then you can say that people are sleeping on you,” he said.

“So for me, I always blame my team when there’s a problem; I don’t like to put it in the media. I feel like if the PR manager or whoever is supposed to communicate with the media, does their job well, end of story. But if they don’t support you, that’s when you can blame the media. But I feel like the media has always supported me,” he further stated.

Not Bothered About Other Songs

Camidoh disclosed that he is not bothered by the fact that his other songs have not reached the same level of success as his hit song, “Sugarcane”.

“Sugarcane” was released by Camidoh, featuring the Nigerian record producer Phantom in 2021. The song quickly gained popularity on TikTok, especially after the release of the remix, and went on to top various charts worldwide, including in Nigeria and Ghana.

Since venturing into the music scene, “Sugarcane” is one of Camidoh’s most successful songs to date. He is already recognized as one of the most promising and talented musicians in Africa.

However, some critics have noted that his other songs, including, “Brown Skin” ft Stonebwoy have yet to match the success of “Sugarcane,” leading to questions about whether it was just a one-time hit.

Camidoh explained that the circumstances surrounding “Sugar Cane” are different from his subsequent releases, therefore, he is not worried about them not reaching the same level.

He attributed this phenomenon to “seasons” and explained that he is not as pressured as before.

“It won’t always be the same; there are different strategies, different plans, and different situations. Not every record would do what Sugarcane did; I’m not even bothered,” he said.

“Before, I used to think like that. I used to put a lot of pressure on myself, but sometimes you just have to understand that it’s seasons. and all records will not do like that,” he further said.

Camidoh learned to embrace the seasons of his musical journey without putting excessive pressure on himself.

Also, he revealed that Nigeria is the gateway to music in Africa.

He emphasized that Nigeria is the largest Afrobeat hub in Africa, and as such, every Ghanaian artist must strive to secure their market share.

He expressed that Nigeria currently holds the title in African music, making it imperative for everyone to attempt to establish their presence, although he emphasized that it should not be viewed as a mandatory endeavor.

He encouraged Ghanaians to recognize the value he holds in another country and show their support.
