VEEP Urges Police To Uphold High Level Of Professionalism Ahead Of 2024 Polls

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has admonished officers of the Ghana Police Service to uphold the highest level of professionalism to ensure peaceful coexistence among citizens in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the 52nd Cadet Officers Graduation at the Police Academy in Accra, Dr Bawumia indicated that the graduation of the cadet officers coincides with a crucial period as the nation gears up for the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024.

According to him, the peaceful outcome of the 2024 general elections will significantly depend on the efficient security measures that would be deployed by the Ghana Police Service.

Again, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party in the election 2024 commended the Ghana Police Service for its exemplary and selfless contribution towards maintaining peace, law and order throughout the country’s democratic regime.

Citizens Urged To Cooperate With Security Agencies

Moreover, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, underscored the importance and the need for citizens to collectively assist the various security agencies in the country to build a peaceful and secured society.

“As the government does its part and the police also do their part, I like to entreat every well-meaning Ghanaian to come on board so that together, we can sustain the gains made in ensuring a safe, peaceful and secure Ghana. Let us partner with the police in our various communities. Passing on relevant information on crime and criminal activities to the police is a gesture that can save lives”.

The Vice President also reminded the officers, both on parade and in general, that their service to the Ghanaian public requires them to be proactive, and accountable and exemplify law-abiding citizenship.

Meanwhile, the Ministers of Defense and National Security have been summoned by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin to appear before the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament on Thursday morning, November 23 2023.

According to the Speaker, the purpose of the meeting is to give a briefing on the steps the government is taking to prevent a conflict between the ‘Mo’ and ‘Wangara’ tribes in Kintampo North municipality.

In response to calls for a ceasefire by the Member of Parliament for the area Joseph Kwame Kumah, the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin directed that the government must take immediate steps to ensure peaceful coexistence within the area.

“It is an urgent matter. The National Security Council through their regional office should immediately intervene because the chieftaincy institution is one of the cornerstones of the peace and security of our country, and we hold that institution dearly. We will do everything to prevent that institution from falling into disarray”.

Rt. Honorable Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin

According to the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Kwame Kumah, tensions were high when the ‘Mo’ tribe requested to perform rituals within November and December, coinciding with the annual ‘Klubi festival’ of the ‘Wangara’ community.
