Supporters of Kennedy Agyapong have called on the recently defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections.

Addressing a press conference today, December 12, 2023, Kwabena Yankey, the group’s chairperson, lauded the abilities of Kennedy Agyapong to run as an independent candidate.

He highlighted Mr Agyapong’s significant contributions to Ghana’s economic growth as the fundamental reason for their support.

Mr Yankey explained that Kennedy Agyapong’s investments in job creation and infrastructure development are enough evidence of his suitability for the presidency.

“We the supporters of Kennedy Agyapong representing the 37 percent of the NPP delegates, wish to inform the general public that Kennedy Agyapong needs to be the next President of Ghana. We are advocating for Kennedy Agyapong, and we urge him to stand as an independent candidate for a massive win in 2024.”

In spite of the recent internal wrangling in the NPP, Mr Yankey underscored that Mr Agyapong’s independent candidacy offers the best hope for national progress.

He explained that Kennedy Agyapong is known for his outspoken nature, unwavering love, and has demonstrated dedication through his actions and spearheaded the establishment of companies that employ 7,000 workers.

“His initiative to construct a state-of-the-art cardio hospital whose investment surpasses $7 million underscores his commitment to the well-being of Ghana. Despite the recent setbacks within the NPP, we continue to believe that supporting him as an independent candidate is crucial for Ghanaians to foster growth, innovation and social welfare of the nation.”

Following the defeat of Kennedy Agyapong during the party’s flagbearer election, there have been some staunch groups within the party advocating for his independent candidature.

Kennedy Agyapong receives plaudits from party members

Prior to this, some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region urged the Assin Central member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, to decline an offer to become the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

These individuals, largely comprising members of volunteer groups that campaigned for Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s presidential primaries, cited perceived bias in favor of Mahamudu Bawumia during the primary.

Expressing their concerns, the leadership of the groups asserted that they were going to submit a petition to Kennedy Agyapong.

They also announced plans for a series of engagements to ensure that their concerns are adequately addressed.

Moreover, the groups stated that they campaigned tirelessly for Kennedy Agyapong across the length and breadth of the Ashanti region and iterated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been unfair to him as a candidate.

They further highlighted that the NPP has disappointed the Assin Central legislator and perhaps Ghanaians by not giving him the opportunity to lead the party as flagbearer for 2024.

To this end, they pleaded with Kennedy Agyapong never to join the party on any campaign platform because he is the only person that the success of the country lies in his hands.
