Parliamentarians Derelict The Solemn Duty Of Legislation; What Else Then Is Parliament Meant For?

Adwoa Sarfo, MP_Dome-Kwabenya

Dome-Kwabenya’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, has expressed confidence that her constituents will rally behind her for another term despite facing challenges in 2023.

Following her successful vetting for the NPP parliamentary primaries on January 27, 2024, Safo acknowledged her past mistakes but emphasized the unwavering support she received from Dome-Kwabenya residents.

Reflecting on her nearly three terms of diligent service, she remained hopeful that party delegates would endorse her once again.

NDC Risks Losing Youth Mobilisation Power

“Admittedly, I made some mistakes in 2023 as a result of things that were beyond my control. But what was so important was that the people of Dome-Kwabenya stood solidly behind me. There is a saying that in your suffering, that is where you get to know your loved ones. The good people of Dome-Kwabenya have shown me love, and I will continue to serve them.

“I have served my constituents diligently for almost three terms, and that is why they are still urging me on to go for another term. I am hopeful that the delegates will rally behind me by voting massively for me on January 27, 2024. I will never disappoint them.”

Addressing concerns raised by some constituency executives, Safo urged unity among NPP members and emphasized the need to focus on shared goals. Highlighting achievements in education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure during her tenure, she called for collective efforts to achieve more for the people.

“The task ahead of us is not easy, and I urge all Dome-Kwabenya NPP members and party enthusiasts to remain united, rally behind me, and together, let us work to deliver more for our people. In the area of education, we have done well. In the area of healthcare, our footprints are there for all to see; in terms of security, we have made great strides; in terms of infrastructure and social intervention projects, we have made headway.

“But there is more to be achieved, and I urge that all of us are guided by our utterances because after the primaries, we remain as one body to fight for a common purpose”

Sarah Adwoa Safo

Facing competition from candidates Mike Oquaye Jnr and Madam Sakyi Oppong Sheela Adoma, Safo, positioned as number two on the ballot, seeks to secure the party’s nomination for the upcoming elections.

Face-Off May Lead To A Face-Out

In the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency, a spirited contest is expected as three prominent candidates vie for the party’s nomination. The contenders include the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adjoa Safo, Mike Oquaye Jnr, and Madam Sakyi Oppong Sheela Adoma.

Sarah Adjoa Safo, who has served as the MP for Dome-Kwabenya, seeks an extension of her tenure. Having held the position for nearly three terms, Safo points to her track record, emphasizing achievements in education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure. Despite facing challenges in 2023 and public dissatisfaction from some constituency executives, Safo remains optimistic about her candidacy, relying on the support she received from constituents.

Mike Oquaye Jnr, a contender with prior experience in the primaries against Safo, aims to turn the tide in his favor this time. With the experience of competing in 2020, where he secured 488 votes against Safo’s 496, Oquaye Jnr positions himself as a viable alternative. The political landscape’s dynamics have likely shifted since their last contest, making this primary a crucial opportunity for Oquaye Jnr to demonstrate growth and broaden his appeal.

Madam Sakyi Oppong Sheela Adoma enters the race as a formidable challenger, adding diversity to the field. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated political arena, Adoma brings a unique perspective to governance. Her participation reflects the increasing recognition of the importance of women in leadership roles. With distinct policy propositions and perspectives, Adoma aims to secure the confidence of NPP delegates in Dome-Kwabenya.

The parliamentary primaries, scheduled for January 27, 2024, will be a critical event in determining the NPP’s candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency in the upcoming general elections. The primary outcome is expected to influence the dynamics of the electoral landscape, shaping the NPP’s prospects in the constituency.

The varying backgrounds and experiences of the candidates contribute to the diversity of choices available to NPP delegates. While Safo leverages her incumbency and track record, Oquaye Jnr aims to present an improved and compelling case for change. Adoma, as a fresh face, seeks to inspire confidence with a new perspective and ideas.

As the primary date approaches, political activities in Dome-Kwabenya are expected to intensify. Candidates will engage in rigorous campaigns, interacting with party delegates and residents to garner support. The outcome of the NPP parliamentary primaries in Dome-Kwabenya will not only determine the party’s parliamentary candidate but will also set the stage for a competitive electoral battle in the constituency against te NDC.
