Highlighting the critical nature of the December 2024 elections, the New Patriotic Party flagbearer stressed the need for the party to emerge from the candidate selection process strengthened, united, and ready to secure victory in 2024.

Bawumia Congratulates Unopposed Aspirants

In a show of recognition for those Members of Parliament running unopposed in their constituencies, the Vice President Dr Mahamudu  Bawumia extended his congratulations, stating that the party and their constituents have expressed confidence in their leadership.

He called on them to justify this trust by collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure success in both the presidential and parliamentary polls.

The New Patriotic Party operating under the banner of ‘Development in Freedom’ is conducting its parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, 2024, to determine the candidates who will represent constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament in the 2024 general elections.

Over 104 constituencies across the country will be involved in these elections. Out of an initial total of 373 aspirants who filed to contest the primaries, the vetting process has seen various outcomes, including 29 candidates going unopposed.

Some of these aspirants have already received popular acclamation in their respective constituencies with the rest of them awaiting similar events in the subsequent days.

However, not all aspirants were granted the green light to proceed, the vetting process resulted in the disqualification of 11 candidates, raising questions about their eligibility or compliance with party regulations. In addition, two individuals faced further scrutiny and were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for additional review, underscoring the commitment to upholding the party’s standards.

Moreover, three aspirants voluntarily stepped down from the race, citing personal reasons and in some instance reasons undisclosed at the moment. Another candidate submitted an incomplete form, prompting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the submission. Additionally, two candidates did not show up for vetting, leaving their eligibility in question.

The final count of qualified aspirants for the upcoming primaries now stands at 326, a number that reflects the resilience and dedication of those who have successfully navigated the vetting process.

The party’s General Secretary, Lawyer Justin Frimpong Koduah has emphasized the importance of a transparent and fair selection process that aligns with the principles of freedom, fairness, and peace.

As the New Patriotic Party engages in this crucial electoral process, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s message serves as a rallying call for unity, integrity, and a commitment to the greater vision of the party.

The outcome of the candidate selection is anticipated to set the stage for the party’s pursuit of victory in the upcoming elections.
