Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Abura Asebu Kwamankese in the Central Region has criticized claims by the Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil suggesting that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should not be held responsible for the economic mismanagement of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

In a sharp rebuttal to Mr Bentil’s comment in which he urged Ghanaians not to also assess Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia based on the performance of President Akufo-Addo’s led administration, Mr Ofosu Kwakye-called for an end to such narrative.

The former Deputy Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama administration also challenged the narrative that former President John Dramani Mahama failed during his tenure and strongly asserted that Mr Mahama outperformed both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia combined.

According to him, the various governance and economics metrics of the country under the current administration and the Mahama-led administration show that Mr Mahama demonstrated superior economic management while in office to that of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Bawumia.

Mr Ofosu Kwakye further asserted that former President John Dramani Mahama did not leave Ghana in a state of bankruptcy and did not default on national debts and emphasized that Mr Mahama’s debt-to-GDP ratio was significantly lower than the current administration’s debt-to -GDP ratio which is at half of the present ratio.

Furthermore, the opposition National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency recounted that deficits during Mr Mahama’s presidency were much lower than that of the current government’s recorded deficits, and he refuted claims of hyperinflation and currency destruction during Mr Mahama’s tenure.

“The poor logic stems from you. In fact, all of you in the NPP and this government have your logic in tatters.  First, it is a lie that Mahama failed.  He was better than Akufo-Addo and your hapless boss, Bawumia, combined”

Mr Ofosu Kwakye further criticized the New Patriotic Party administration on its decision to raise GHS 100 billion from bondholders for debt restructuring and described the move as detrimental to the country’s economic well-being.

Moreover, the former Deputy Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu accused Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of failing to discharge his mandate as the head of Economic Management Team of the New Patriotic Party administration.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu vehemently rejected the argument suggesting that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the best Vice President Ghana has ever had and further asserted that the argument contradicts the narrative that suggests that the Vice President does not have any decision-making powers under the ruling New Patriotic Party administration.

“More bizarre illogic is displayed by you, if you say he has been the best Vice President. How can the same man you say is useless and is just a decorative fixture at the Presidency and has no power to make any decision, have power to take decisions at the same time for him to be the “best Vice President? There isn’t one scenario that your boss’ bid that makes any sense.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Mr Ofosu Kwakye aslo expressed doubt about Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s role in the government, asserting that if he is indeed ineffective, as suggested by the likes of the Mr Bentil, then it raises questions about his willingness to evade responsibility for electoral purposes.
