Deyemi Okanlawon Opens Up About His Journey In The Industry

Deyemi Okanlawon

Actor Deyemi Okanlawon has opened up about his journey in the entertainment industry, revealing that he has never received a significant award throughout his career.

He stated that despite not being recognized by national award organizers, he has remained motivated, emphasizing that he enjoys encouraging himself.

Despite his incredible talent and noteworthy performances, the actor shared his surprising reality of being continually overlooked by award panels.

He stated that if an award is presented, he will accept it, but he will not allow the validation of prizes to define him.

“I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria. I have been around [in the entertainment industry] for long enough that if I were the type of person to feel a certain way, I would have been like, ‘Why had I not been awarded this or that?’” he said.

The truth is, I can look into my mirror and congratulate myself. I have done this all my life. And if recognition or validation comes from somewhere else, I will take it graciously. In fact, I had to learn to take compliments instead of deflecting them. Validation shouldn’t define you. If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round,” he asserted.

Recently, Deyemi Okanlawon joined his colleague movie producers and revealed a new movie titled “All’s Fair In Love” which premiered on Monday, February 11, 2024, amid Valentine’s celebration.

He noted that there’s a lot to expect from his new movie, adding that he wanted a simple, exciting, and intriguing character that viewers can relate to.

“For the first time, the world got to see what I’ve been working on for so many months, it’s been a labor of love and I’m happy that we are presenting to Nigerians a special Valentine’s gift,” he said.

He further added that Nigerians have gone through a lot over the last year and a few days ago, so they need something that will take away their stress and something that will make their life a bit softer.

Deyemi was asked how he balanced his role as an actor while playing love movies and his marital life, being a father and a husband.

In response, the movie star stated that he takes whatever feelings he has for his wife and just projects it onto whoever he’s acting with, “Because there are times we actors work with people we don’t even like, but we still have to make chemistry like a professional,” he said.
