Afua Asantewaa

Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s singing marathon attempt held in December last year has been disapproved.

According to Afua Asantewaa, the news came a few minutes later while she was preparing to host a gala dinner.

“The news of the outcome of my Sing-a-thon attempt came a few minutes as I was preparing to host a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network attended by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” she revealed.

The media personality thanked her fans for their support and hinted at addressing her next steps in the coming days.

“I would announce my next line of action in a few days. When life hands you lemons, turn them into lemonade. Success is sweetest when snatched out of the jaws of defeat,” she further added.

Also, Afua’s husband, Kofi Aduonum hailed his wife despite the verdict.

According to Afua’s husband, he sees his wife as a heroine despite her Sing-a-thon verdict. Her husband opened up about the impact of her wife’s attempt, hailing for her resilience from December till now.

The official Guinness World Records account shared an update on the record of Afua Asantewaa via Twitter.

The statement expressed regret that her attempt did not meet the necessary criteria for success but encouraged her to consider future record-breaking endeavors.

“Unfortunately Afua’s Guinness World Records attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful, but we hope that she will make another attempt soon. We’ve seen how inspirational it has been for her fans,” part of the statement read.

Guinness World Record also disclosed that she requested priority service for the evidence check process, which was already underway.

However, despite this request, her attempt was deemed unsuccessful, leading to the refund of her payment earlier in the month.

“The evidence check had already begun before Afua requested priority service, so we refunded her payment earlier this month. We wish Afua the best of luck with any future record attempts,” the statement said.

The event, hosted at the Akwaaba Village in Accra near the Kotoka International Airport, garnered immense support, with thousands in attendance in their bid to support her [Afua Asantewaa] and be part of the history.

Afua Asantewaa staged the marathon singing event in Accra last December in a bid to break the existing record.

For five continuous days, she sang non-stop for 126 hours while thousands cheered her on. However, her attempt was not approved by Gunness World Records.

The verdict disqualifying her threw many Ghanaians into a state of shock as many fans were hopeful of a positive result.

Social media was set ablaze after the news was made known, with many social media users trolling Afua Asantewaa for her loss while others expressed their support and commended her effort.

Popular Ghanaian media personality, Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, expressed her disappointment with Afua Asantewaa’s disqualification from the longest singing marathon by an individual.

Vim Lady, who is a friend and avid supporter of Afua, took to her Facebook page to console her and commend her for her effort.

The broadcaster revealed that some people copied Afua’s idea before her process was concluded, which she believes might have affected her chances of success.

“Our copy copy is what has caused this. We did not even allow Asantewaa’s process to conclude and we were all copying. Afua, you did your best. The brand you have attained alone is enough,” she said.

According to rapper Okyeame Kwame, Afua Asantewaa may have failed to secure a Guinness World Record for her 126-hour singing marathon, but she continues to be hailed as a national hero.

“I think she’s done very well. She has made these thons popular in Ghana and whether she is approved by Guinness or not I think she is still our hero. She made our Christmas very nice and she is now a big celebrity and I like what she is doing with her newfound fame. I wish you well Afua,” the rapper stated in a video.
