“Mr Speaker, democracies are founded on elections, and the holding of free and credible elections ensures that people have confidence in the government that emerges at the end of the process. The Honourable Members of this House, who are at the centre of it all, know more than the rest of us that this is an election year.

“The increased decibel level in all communications would ensure that even the most politically uninterested person among us would know that, on December 7, we shall be going to the polls to elect a new President and Members of Parliament”

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo further recounted the significant role political parties in the country ought to play in ensuring that the Electoral Commission of Ghana succeeds in the discharge of its sacred duty of organizing credible elections for the country.

He thus urged the various political parties in the country to demonstrate commitment to the principles and values that underpin democracy and competitive elections by showcasing their willingness to accept the outcome of the 2024 general elections.

President Akufo-Addo warned against any attitude or conduct among the various political parties in the country that would seek to undermine the country’s democracy in instances where it loses the election.

“A lot of responsibility lies on the political parties as well, and I hope that the parties recognise that their credibility is also on the line, with some people wanting to undermine the multi-party democratic system of government”.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo speaking on the need for the country to maintain its cherished peace both before, during, and after the December 7 polls, strongly advocated for the need for all stakeholders to refrain from any conduct or activities that could jeopardize the peace of the country.

He thus urged the Electoral Commission of Ghana to work with the various political parties in the country to address every concern that shall arise during the processes leading to the 2024 general elections in order to build trust in its system.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo expressed his excitement over the Electoral Commission, decision to shelve plans to change the 7th December date after engaging the various political parties and other stakeholders.

President Akufo-Addo stressed the need for the various election stakeholders particularly the Electoral Commission and the various political parties in the country to work in the best interest of the country.

He expressed his confidence in the various security agencies in the country including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and a host of others to ensure the country is not thrown into chaos during the 2024 general elections.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo further emphasized his commitment to protect Ghana’s globally recognized reputation as the beacon of democracy in Africa by providing all the necessary support to the various state institutions for the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2024 general elections.
