The Central Regional Branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress has commended the decision by the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama to retain Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the running mate for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The Central Regional Secretary of the party, Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams in a statement stated that the nomination of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, an eminent academic and distinguished daughter of the Central Region, is a strategic move that not only showcases her remarkable achievements in academia but also underscores the party’s unwavering commitment to empowering women in the political landscape.

According to Mr. Kommey Adams, the nomination of the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast as the running mate to party projects her virtues as a woman of valor, with her accomplishments in academia serving as an inspirational benchmark for several aspiring young women in the country and across the continent.

The Central Reginal Secretary of the National Democratic Congress further indicated that the flagbearer’s decision to nominate Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang is a progressive step towards gender inclusivity and a testament to the party’s dedication to promoting women’s active participation in socio-political decision-making processes in the country.

“We believe that this carefully made nomination by the visionary leader, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, will inspire confidence in our dear mothers and sisters who aspire to venture into the Ghanaian political space, which is largely dominated by men”.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeamng, A Valuable Asset To NDC’s Victory

Furthermore, the Central Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress expressed confidence that the nomination of Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the party’s running mate to the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama will bring her extensive exposure, experience, and influence as an academic to bear in the party’s quest to secure victory in the upcoming December 7elections.

The statement emphasized that Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang is a valuable asset to the National Democratic Congress’s quest to take power from the ruling New Patriotic Party, particularly due to her outstanding accomplishments in both academia and public service.

Expressing its congratulations to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress in the Central Regional pledged to work diligently as a cohesive Regional Executive bloc and a unified party to secure victory for the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections.

The statement stressed that the ultimate goal of the party in the region is to reclaim political power from the governing New Patriotic Party and uphold the party’s commitment to restoring the socio-economic fortunes of the country to its past glory, emphasizing the prospects of the party’s proposed 24-hour economic policy.

The Central Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Gabriel Nii Kommey Adams concluded the statement by expressing the party in the region’s salutations to former President John Dramani Mahama for his steadfast commitment towards the development of Ghana.

He also expressed a hearty congratulations to Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on her well-deserving nomination as the running mate for the National Democratic Congress for the 2024 general elections.

He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress in the Central Region looks forward to a spirited campaign that would lead to the victory of the party in the 2024 general elections, expressing confidence in the leadership and vision of former President John Dramani Mahama as the party’s flagbearer and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as the party’s running mate.
