Prophet Kofi Oduro lambastes the Government

Prophet Kofi Oruro

Prophet Kofi Oruro

The founder and general overseer of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro has added his voice to that of many influential critics calling for a proper audit of the National Cathedral project. The outspoken man of God could not hide his anger at the way the project was being executed. He questioned the “faith and “piety” of the Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia-led New Patriotic Party.

The prophet lamented the fact the project continues to drain national coffers, yet there is nothing on the ground to show that tallies with the amount expended to date.

“Where is God in government? Where does God stand in the Jubilee House? Does our President fear God? Why is it that this National Cathedral has robbed this nation’s coffers?” the prolific preacher quizzed, adding, “58 million dollars [spent] and all we have is a pit, a bit hole.”

Prophet Kofi Oduro

He further decried how the government is soiling the hard-earned reputation of several men of God, some of whom he holds in high esteem. “58 million dollars…where is God in that? You have stolen to the point that even building a house for God, for the past four years we draw our bow and put a chain on the neck of fathers with hard-earned reputations people [who] have served the Lord for years without any dent—we made them trustees, and we go behind them and steal.”

Prophet kofi Oduro

Although he fell short of mentioning any name, initially when the project started, it had several men of God involved but the strings of “alleged” malfeasance and contractual improprieties and the sort of negative image they were generating forced many to resign as trustees of the Cathedral.

The project was controversial from the onset, but with rumors and allegations of financial malfeasance and contractual impropriety, it just got murkier. Among those who resigned are Pastor Dag Heward-Mills, and Dr. Mensah Otabil.

Besides, some were alleged to be involved in the malfeasance themselves. A notable example is example is reverend Kusi Boateng. Although he has protested his innocence, the court of public opinion seems to have arrived at a guilty verdict and it may be difficult for him to redeem his image.

In his trademark voice and style, he chastised the government, “I am a builder if you give me 58 million dollars, I will give you a structure.”

The project.

Before he was elected President, then NPP Presidential candidate Nana Addo made a vow to build a befitting house for God, should he grant him and his party a victory the in 2016 Presidential Election which he won with a huge margin.

Fast forward, the nation is paying for the President’s promise. In 2021 the project commenced but has now grounded to a halt. Even after gulping almost $58 million, it is barely at the foundational level.

Power and murder

In another related matter, amid the outpouring of shocks and grief, the man of God expresses his displeasure about the alleged poisoning of John Kumah, a lawmaker from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). He appeared visibly angry yet cool in his usual self. Prophet Oduro spoke of power and how ephemeral it is. He questioned the rationale behind the poisoning.

“A nation that is 67 years old is ready to poison people to death. What are they looking for? Power. How sure are you about that power? Who said the NPP will win the next election? It is God who makes leaders. In a country where high-profile murders like that of JB Danquah-Adu and late President Atta Mills remain resolved and undisclosed, one may be right not to trust the will and ability of the state to provide answers to questions surrounding this painful demise.
