NDC’s General Secretary Touts Transformational Power Of Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Policy

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has expressed confidence in the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama’s proposed policies to transform the country’s economy.

Mr Kwetey while accusing the ruling New Patriotic Party of mismanaging the affairs of the country over the past seven years it has been in power, further asserted that Mr Mahama’s policies put forth aimed at steering Ghana towards economic recovery and prosperity.

“Amidst the unprecedented economic challenges faced under the NPP government in the past 7 years, H.E. John Mahama’s policies stand as a beacon of hope, offering a roadmap to economic recovery and prosperity.  Today, let’s delve into a few of H.E. John Mahama’s visionary policies aimed at propelling Ghana’s economic growth”.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, National Democratic Congress General Secretary

The National Democratic Congress General Secretary began by stating that one of the cornerstone initiatives of the party’s flagbearer is the establishment of a $50 million Fintech Growth Fund.

He noted that such a bold move is intended to catalyze innovation and entrepreneurship within Ghana’s burgeoning tech sector.

According to Mr Kwetey, by providing essential financial support to fintech startups, Mr Mahama envisions not only driving job creation but also propelling Ghana into the forefront of the digital age.

He also recounted that the $50 million Fintech Growth fund injection into the tech ecosystem promises to stimulate economic growth, positioning Ghana as a hub for technological advancement and innovation in the subregion.

Furthermore, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress indicated that in a proactive measure to safeguard Ghana’s financial stability, the party’s flagbearer when elected into power would implement responsible borrowing practices.

Mr Kwetey, strongly posited that recognizing the perilous nature of uncontrolled debt accumulation, former President John Mahama’s policy seeks to prevent future debt crises.

He noted that by imposing borrowing limits, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer intends to protect the investments of all Ghanaians, fostering an environment of fiscal responsibility and ensuring a secure and sustainable economic future for the country.

Promoting Local Participation, Empowering Communities

Moreover, the former Member of Parliament for Ketu South in the Volta Region mentioned that central to Mahama’s economic vision is the prioritization of local participation in key sectors such as banking, oil and gas, and agriculture.

He argued that by empowering indigenous businesses and communities, the next National Democratic Congress administration under Mr Mahama seeks to stimulate economic growth from within.

Mr Kwetey, who also served as the Deputy Minister of Finance under the erstwhile Mills and the National Democratic Congress’s administration expressed optimism that through policies that promote local ownership and involvement, former President John Dramani Mahama seeks to create employment opportunities, foster sustainable development, and reduce reliance on external actors.

This approach, according to him would not only strengthen Ghana’s economy but also cultivates a sense of ownership and pride among its citizens.

Touching a little bit on Mr Mahama’s proposed policies on governance reforms, Mr Kwetey stated that the party flagbearer would establish a Governance Advisory Council with the ultimate purpose of improving political governance, curbing corruption and ensuring respect for human rights.

He mentioned that, the Council will include representatives from the Civil Society Organization, religious and traditional leaders as well as ordinary Ghanaians that would be empowered to prepare a “State of Governance in Ghana Report”   yearly

The National Democratic Congress Chief Scribe concluded his remarks by stressing that the policies proposed by former President John Dramani Mahama underscore his unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic development in Ghana.
