Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer, NDC

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi has indicated that no metric shows signs of economic progress since the Akufo-Addo-led NPP government came into office in 2017, stating that Ghana’s downgrade with economic rating agencies is due to the government’s poor economic performance.

He argued that Ghanaians are experiencing economic hardship due to the incumbent government’s incompetency, stating that the government and its officials are embroiled in corruption which has added more burden to the woes of Ghanaians.

Furthermore, the NDC Communicator accused the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of incompetency, noting that the Vice President, contrary to what he wants Ghanaians to believe, played a role in the country’s economic downturn as the head of the Economic Management Team.

“Mates are relevant and important; you can be a good driver, but with a bad mate, you will fail. This mate, Dr. Bawumia, is a very incompetent, corrupt, and clueless mate. And that is why he has failed in the primary responsibility President Akufo-Addo entrusted to him, which is the management of the economy”.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi also clarified that the Ghana Cedi has woefully depreciated against the US dollar over the last seven years, rising from GH₵ 5: US$ 1 to GH₵ 13.5: US$ 1, arguing that the Vice President is of no use to the importer who relies on the good performance of the cedi to conduct his business. “Where are the strong economic fundamentals?” he quipped.

He further emphasized that Ghanaians were better off under the NDC government than they are today, indicating that there is no economic metric currently that is better than it was in 2016 when the NDC Mahama-led administration handed over power to the NPP in early 2017. “The rate of inflation in 2016 December was 15.4%, what is the rate of inflation today? About 23%, after it rose to 54%” he added.

Ghanaians To Vote For Mahama

Moreover, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi appealed to Ghanaians to vote for the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama during the impending Presidential elections in December. He argued that the former President is trustworthy, and has a proven track record that shows that he, John Mahama is competent.

Singing the praises of the former President, the NDC Communicator indicated that John Mahama is natively an honest person stating that the former President “exudes honesty seamlessly”. He asserted that the former President has a transformational agenda and vision that can turn Ghana’s economic fortunes around while insisting that John Mahama is an experienced leader that the country needs.

Subsequently, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi clarified that all the allegations of corruption the former President has been charged with are false propaganda undertaken by the NPP to make the former President unpopular with Ghanaians. He emphasized the allegations are false as time has vindicated John Mahama.

“They have not been able to adduce a scintilla to buttress any of the allegations that he padded the cost of the Ridge Hospital, allegations that he has stolen money to build luxury buildings, and hotels in Dubai. We know that all those things were fabricated lies by the NPP and their cohorts to tarnish the reputation of Mahama”.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi

He argued that the former President, unlike the incumbent Vice President who is untrustworthy, is incorruptible. He admonished Ghanaians to shun the NPP flagbearer during the Presidential election and instead vote for the NDC Presidential candidate.

Conclusively, as the December 7th election approaches, the NDC continues to capitalize on the country’s economic challenges and ‘abysmal’ performance to fuel its Presidential campaign. The NPP however, is yet to start any real campaign as the party is yet to institute its regional campaign teams.
