Ghanaian Creatives Admonished To Monitor Industry Trends

Ghanaian digital music expert Jonathan ‘Jonilar’ Nii Laryea

Keeping an eye on industry trends is essential for creatives in any field, including Ghanaian creatives.

Ghanaian creatives can stay up-to-date with the latest techniques, tools, and styles to ensure that their work remains relevant and resonates with their target audience.

Ghanaian digital music expert Jonathan ‘Jonilar’ Nii Laryea stressed the importance of understanding industry standards, pointing out that many talented creatives struggle due to a lack of awareness about some of the key aspects that could determine their success.

Jonilar noted that instead of solely relying on social media for support, musicians should invest in learning how to establish connections within the industry.

“I urge local media to prioritize crafting radio content that educates creatives and I recall from last year’s event to the government and other stakeholders to invest in digital music incubator programs in junior and senior high schools nationwide,” he further added.

Being aware of industry trends enables creatives to identify emerging opportunities by adapting skills and offerings to meet the changing demands of the market, potentially leading to new collaborations, projects, or business ventures.

When creatives are aware of industry trends, they can position themselves as thought leaders or early adopters in their respective fields and by so doing give them a competitive edge over others who may be slower to adapt or unaware of new developments.

Industry trends often bring professionals together, providing opportunities for networking and collaboration. Ghanaian creatives can actively engage with others in their field, fostering partnerships and expanding their professional network.

Following industry trends exposes creatives to new ideas, concepts, and innovations which can spark inspiration and drive innovative thinking, allowing Ghanaian creatives to push boundaries and create groundbreaking work.

Monitoring industry trends is a form of continuous learning that will help Ghanaian creatives enhance their skills, broaden their knowledge, and stay informed about best practices. This commitment to professional development can lead to personal growth and improved career prospects.

Speaking to Music In Africa, Jonilar noted that the level of commitment by musicians and creatives learning new things can advance their careers.

Preventing Unforeseen Consequences As Ghanaian Creatives

Ensuring mental stability and seeking professional assistance are crucial aspects of managing one’s brand as a Ghanaian creative.

Health professional and MC Yaw Ampofo Adomako, emphasized the significance of mental wellness for creatives, highlighting its role in preventing unforeseen consequences.

Starting to recognize the importance of mental well-being and understanding one’s mental health, Ghanaian creatives need to pay attention to their feelings, emotions, and stress levels, by taking time to reflect on how these factors may impact their brand and overall performance.

As a creative, it’s easy to get caught up in the demands of work and neglect self-care. Boundaries need to be set between work and personal life by establishing specific working hours, taking breaks, and making time for activities that bring joy and relaxation for creatives.

Ghanaian broadcaster, Gideon Kwame Sarkodie advised musicians to cultivate business relationships with media professionals to enhance their visibility on radio, and Public Relations expert Isaac Sosito underscored the importance of improving communication skills and seeking professional assistance in managing one’s brand.

Ghanaian creatives can create connections through networking events, workshops, or online communities, and through these workshops, sharing experiences, challenges, and successes with like-minded individuals provides a sense of belonging and support.

Building relationships with media personalities enhances creatives’ visibility in the media space.

Staying informed as a Ghanaian creative educates them to be aware of local organizations, hotlines, or support groups that can assist when they need assistance in managing their brands and selling their brands near and far.
