Using a reflective approach to evaluate potential life partners means taking a thoughtful and introspective stance instead of relying solely on external factors or superficial aspects.

Compatibility regarding long-term goals, lifestyle choices, and fundamental values is crucial for a successful relationship. Reflecting on core values and beliefs, and considering how well individuals align with one’s potential partner.

Assessing the quality of communication between potential partners. Are they open, empathetic, and able to express their emotions effectively? Strong emotional intelligence and healthy communication skills are essential for resolving conflicts and building a strong, supportive relationship.

Trust is the foundation of any relationship, so it is important to consider if potential partners are dependable, honest, and consistent.

It is crucial to consider the emotional and mental well-being of both self and potential partners by reflecting on their ability to handle stress, manage emotions, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. Supporting each other’s mental health is vital for the overall well-being of the relationship.

While compatibility in values and emotional connection are important, shared interests and hobbies can also strengthen a relationship. Reflecting on whether there are common interests or activities that both parties enjoy doing together, can foster a deeper bond and provide shared experiences.

Gabby Otchere-Darko, the leading member of the New Patriotic Party, urged individuals to take a reflective approach when evaluating their potential partners.

He emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating the qualities that each partner brings to the relationship, thereby fostering mutual growth and value addition.

“A man and a woman become a couple because there are things about each other that the other values/cherishes/appreciates and by teaming up, it makes the partner or spouse better. Take your time, reflect and evaluate, look at all that you like about your other half, the things that they do that you may even take for granted, at home, and work, and begin listing the many things that they are better at than you.

“It may not have a price tag, but likely to be priceless. Don’t be blind to them. It is what partnership is all about; value addition in more ways than we may care to admit. Some call it love. Others simply see it as a way of life if not the way of life.”

His remarks came in response to an alleged post attributed to Pastor Elvis Agyemang, suggesting that men should avoid marrying women who see themselves as superior to their husbands.

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu also stated that despite the relevance of marriage in one’s life, opting for a partner who is not the right fit in terms of attitude and character could make things worse for an individual and possibly affect their businesses as well.

Kwaku Manu noted that individuals must ensure that their partners possess the right attitudes, especially honesty, for the marriage to thrive.

“Marriage is one of the most expensive things in the world because it is God’s wish and command. Some people say things are thriving for them after marriage but if you marry a satanic person, it can lead to your downfall. There are instances where the woman is honest but the man might be a liar.

“When the woman finds out later, it could jeopardize the relationship. A dishonest woman is more dangerous than one who engages in extra-marital affairs. One of the things I detest in life is lies, such people should be feared.”

Kwaku Manu

It’s important to trust instincts and take time when evaluating potential life partners. Reflecting on these factors can help make a more informed decision and increase the likelihood of a fulfilling and lasting partnership.

Divorce On The Rise

divorce

Marriage is often considered a sacred union that binds two individuals together in love and commitment. However, in recent years, Ghana has witnessed a significant rise in the rate of divorce among married couples. This trend has raised concerns about the changing dynamics of relationships and the impact of modernization on traditional marriage values.

The increasing empowerment of women in Ghana has changed the dynamics of marriages. Women are now more financially independent and assertive in their relationships, challenging traditional gender roles. This shift can sometimes lead to conflicts and power struggles within the marriage.

Issues such as infidelity, lack of communication, and trust issues are common reasons for divorce in Ghana. With the rise of social media and technology, it has become easier for individuals to engage in extramarital affairs, leading to broken trust and irreparable damage to the relationship.

The rising trend of divorce has far-reaching implications for individuals, families, and society as a whole. Children of divorced parents may experience emotional distress and instability, affecting their well-being and future relationships. Divorce can also lead to financial hardships for women, especially in a society where they may have limited economic opportunities.

Over the past weeks, Medikal, who shares a child with Fella Makafui, stated that they are now divorced and solely co-parenting, adding that they did not agree on some issues together.

Nevertheless, Medikal expressed no regrets about his three-year relationship with Fella Makafui, which began after their marriage ceremony in March 2020.

“I don’t regret it; everything is part of the experience. It’s a normal thing that happened to me, it allowed me to experience life. There’s no animosity between us.”

Also, Xandy Kamel and her husband, King Kaninja divorced recently with King Kaninja citing Xandy Kamel’s alleged inability to perform basic household tasks as a critical factor.

Other celebrities who have divorced include, Chris Attoh, Juliet Ibrahim, Emelia Brobbey, and Elikem Kumodzie, among others.

The rise of divorce in marriages reflects the changing social, economic, and cultural landscape. While divorce can be a necessary step towards personal happiness and growth, it is essential to address the root causes of marital conflicts and work towards building stronger and more resilient relationships.
