Ghanaian Gospel Musician KODA Passes On

KODA

Information indicates that gospel musician Augustine Kofi Owusu Dua Anto, popularly known as KODA, has passed away at age 45.

Gospel musician, Nii Okai, a friend of KODA confirmed the news.

“KODA has passed onto glory in the early hours of Sunday, April 21, 2024. Let us pray for the family as we all process the news of his transition,” he wrote.

Although he did not give further details as to how he died, unconfirmed reports reveal that he allegedly died from a sickness [kidney failure] he was battling with.

Kofi Owusu Dua Anto (KODA) was a Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana.

KODA, celebrated for his uplifting melodies and soulful compositions, has left an indelible mark on the Ghanaian music scene, and his music resonated deeply with audiences, inspiring hope and faith.

Having shot unto the Gospel music scene after producing a couple of timeless Gospel tunes for some well-known Gospel acts both in Ghana and abroad including the likes of Pastor Joe Beechem, the late Danny Nettey, Daughters of glorious Jesus, Nii Okai, Pastor Helen Yawson, Joyful Way Incorporated and Nathaniel Bassey, he not only wowed the nation when he further released songs he had written, produced and sang, but came across with such a strong message that he was tagged the “PREACHER’s PREACHER.”

KODA’s style of music was unconventional. One would expect that a contemporary musician with all the experiences harnessed over the years will produce a sound that is skewed towards the “Western” style of music but contrary to that, KODA uses his “white” or “Western” influences to produce music that the African can truly appreciate with the quality of sound one would hear in “western music.”

KODA’s discography includes 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 2 instrumental/ jazz albums.

‘Keteke’ was his 6th vocal album.

He is well-known for popular gospel songs such as ‘Nkwaa Abodo’, ‘Nsem Pii’, ‘Adooso’, and ‘Hossana’.

Others are ‘Poma Dadaa’, ‘Amen’, and ‘Zion Song’.

Netizens Reactions

Many Ghanaians are mourning following the death of beloved Gospel musician KODA.

The gospel musician’s death has shocked many, and they have taken to various social media platforms to express how devastated they are amidst tributes.

While some have shared his photographs with captions, others who appear to have been rendered speechless could only share a heartbreak emoji to communicate their state of mind following the sudden demise of KODA.

Also, a netizen raised concerns about the high rate at which kidney diseases are taking the lives of many individuals.

His demise has cast a pall over the music industry, leaving fans and fellow musicians mourning the loss of a true talent. KODA’s contributions to gospel music will undoubtedly endure as a testament to his legacy.

“WHAT!! How come no one heard about his illness? We’ll all leave eventually. Do you know how yours going to be? Mystery.”

Qwami Addo

“It’s about time we have a National conversation about kidney disease and dialysis treatment in Ghana. HOW MUCH IS A DIALYSIS MACHINE AND HOW MUCH IS V8?”

Nene Azy Matey Coley

“A very huge loss for the Gospel fraternity and Ghana music industry. RIP KODA.”

KOBY BINEY

“Ohhhh my Goodness. May his wonderful soul Rest in Perfect Peace in JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.”

MR G.O

“This is so sad. I don’t know why and what is happening but God protect all of us and our loved ones out there.”

ONUA

“Ouch, this hurts. I wanted to work with him so much omg. My heart is broken.”
