The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has initiated this year’s Annual Constitution Week celebration in the Ashanti Region, with a focus on the theme “Together we can build Ghana together, so Get Involved.”

The event was launched with a blend of tradition and culture at the Akwamuhene’s Palace (Asafo Ahenfie) in Kumasi. This theme emphasizes the importance of collective effort in building a united and prosperous Ghana, encouraging participation from all sectors of society.

“At the start of the Fourth Republic, the framers of the Constitution decided that as we embark on building another Republic, we will put everything in place. [This is] to ensure that we don’t have the situation where the Republic is overthrown. So, as part of the institutional and Constitutional arrangements for our county’s governance, the National Commission for Civic Education was set up.”

Ms. Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of NCCE

The Chairperson of NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy first explained the concept of the Constitution Week celebration, its relevance to Ghana’s constitutional democracy, and what the Commission seeks to achieve with the celebration, among others.

Ms. Addy reminded the gathering and the general public about Ghana’s constitutional journey and congratulated Ghanaians on how far we have come as a country and as a democratic state.

Ms. Addy again mentioned that the celebration of Constitution Week is a time for all citizens to go back to the Constitution, read, and familiarise themselves with the Chapters and Articles and what it preaches.

She charged all citizens to grab a copy of the 1992 Constitution either hard copy which is less expensive or download the 1992 Constitution of Ghana app.
