The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of IT and Elections, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has expressed grave concerns about potential attempts to rig the upcoming 2024 general elections.

In a passionate statement, the former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration expressed his deep distress over what he perceives as deliberate efforts to manipulate the electoral process before the first vote is even cast.

“My dedication and loyalty to HE John Dramani Mahama, our beloved party the NDC  and Ghana 🇬🇭 our motherland drives me crazy when I sense the deliberate acts to rig the 2024 elections even before the first vote is cast”.

Dr Omane Boamah highlighted the severe challenges currently facing Ghana, including unprecedented economic hardships, a destabilized economy with the exchange rate at $1 to GH₵15, rampant unemployment, and unparalleled levels of corruption under the current administration.

He thus, emphasized that any attempts to rig the election amidst such crises would be intolerable and unfortunate, vowing that such a scheme would not materialize.

The National Democratic Congress Director of IT and Elections further expressed the opposition party’s commitment to win the 2024 general elections despite any machination deployed by the ruling New Patriotic Party and the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

He emphasized that the opposition party’s resolve to win the December 7 polls is to offer the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama the opportunity to reset Ghana’s development trajectory.

Dr Omane Boamah outlined former President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of creating well-paying jobs for the youth through the party’s 24-hour economy initiative when elected into power.

He also expressed former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer’s commitment to fight corruption to save the country’s public resources and funds that are mostly lost through financial misappropriation and procurement infractions.

Integrity of the Electoral Commission of Ghana

Moreover, Dr Edward Omane Boamahm, the former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration expressed doubt over the integrity and credibility of the Electoral Commission of Ghana to conduct the 2024 general elections.

He called for Parliament to act swiftly on a crucial petition demanding an independent bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into the theft of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits from the Electoral Commission’s headquarters, which he noted occurred under CCTV surveillance.

Dr Omane Boamah expressed hope that a parliamentary inquiry would also uncover the fate of the missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and ensure the robustness of the Electoral Commisison’s IT systems ahead of the December 7, 2024 general elections.

In addition, the National Democratic Congress IT and Elections Director pointed out that the Electoral Commission of Ghana has yet to respond to 35 critical questions he posed at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) regarding the stolen BVRs and BVDs.

He decried the lack of transparency and accountability from the Electoral Commission, which he believes is crucial for maintaining public trust in the electoral process.

Dr. Omane Boamah concluded by stating that he foresees a wave of public demonstrations in key cities like Tamale, Kumasi, and Accra, driven by widespread dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs and the looming threat of electoral malpractice.

He therefore urged citizens to remain vigilant and proactive, stating, “Keep an Eagle Eye. If you see something, say something!” to underscore the urgent need for citizens to speak against the conduct of the Electoral Commission of Ghana under the leadership of Madam Jean Mensah.

As the 2024 elections approach, Dr. Omane Boamah’s fervent call for transparency, accountability, and integrity in the electoral process resonates with members and supporters of the opposition party, who are eager for change and a fair, democratic process.
