The General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Samuel Obuobi, has issued a call to action for all members nationwide to participate in the upcoming Green Ghana Day, emphasizing the church’s commitment to both spiritual and environmental stewardship.

Speaking on behalf of the church’s chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Apostle Obuobi highlighted the church’s proactive role in environmental conservation efforts since the inception of the government’s afforestation program in 2021.

Apostle Obuobi underscored the church’s dedication to environmental sustainability, stating, “As a church, we are not only interested in saving souls but we are also interested in the environment.”

Apostle Samuel Obuobi announced the church’s ambitious goal to plant 1 million tree seedlings this year, building upon its previous achievements. Since the start of the afforestation program, the Church of Pentecost has successfully planted over 1.6 million seedlings with an impressive success rate of 87%.

This success is part of a broader initiative known as the Environmental Care Campaign, a key component of Vision 2028. This campaign focuses on community clean-ups, environmental education, and widespread tree planting.

Apostle Obuobi further assured ongoing collaboration with the Forestry Commission to enhance environmental conservation efforts.

Moreover, Apostle Dr. Samuel Gakpetor, Chairman of the National Discipleship and Leadership Development Committee (NDLDC) of the Church of Pentecost, detailed the church’s specific plans for the upcoming Green Ghana Day.

Dr. Gakpetor announced that the church has sought the Forestry Commission’s assistance in identifying suitable reserves for tree planting, particularly emphasizing efforts in the Northern Region. “Our congregations in the Northern Region have secured approximately 262 acres of land for planting on Green Ghana Day,” Apostle Dr. Samuel Gakpetor disclosed.

Furthermore, Dr. Gakpetor outlined that key church leaders, including the Chairman and General Secretary, will actively engage with traditional leaders in their respective regions to lead the planting activities. Specifically, Apostle Nyamekye will join the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in the Ashanti Region, while Apostle Obuobi will collaborate with Ga-Mantse in Accra for the planting efforts.

The church is committed to promoting Green Ghana Day through various channels. Dr. Gakpetor mentioned that the church would deploy all necessary resources to publicize the event, ensuring its success. He highlighted the role of the church’s media outlet, Pent TV, in spreading awareness and encouraging participation.

Echoing this commitment, Mr. John Allortey, Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, announced the goal to plant at least 10 million seedlings this year, with a strong emphasis on nurturing them to maturity.

Mr. John Allortey called on Ghanaians to support this vital initiative and noted that seedlings would be available at multiple distribution points, including the Forestry Commission Head Office, district offices, Chief Palaces, churches, and various malls a week before the planting day.

Mr. Allortey expressed his gratitude to the Church of Pentecost for their continued support and looked forward to a successful collaboration for the 2024 Green Ghana Day. He urged the church executives to leverage their media platforms to communicate effectively with the public, ensuring widespread participation in the event.

The Environmental Care Campaign of The Church of Pentecost has taken significant strides in promoting environmental consciousness, especially among young people, through the launch of the Eco Impact Network. This initiative is closely aligned with the church’s Vision 2028, aiming to inspire members to make a positive impact beyond the church walls.

The Church of Pentecost’s dedication to environmental conservation, as part of its broader mission, underscores the vital role of religious organizations in addressing ecological challenges. The forthcoming Green Ghana Day stands as a testament to this commitment, promising a significant impact on the nation’s afforestation efforts.
