The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a damning allegation against Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, accusing him of judicial manipulation in the trial of the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

The opposition party in a statement issued by its National Chairman, Honorable Johnson Asiedu Nketiah condemned the conduct of the Attorney-General, emphasizing that the issues were brought to light following a testimony in court by Mr. Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the Dr Ato Forson’s ambulance trial.

Mr Nketiah further noted that Mr Jakpa testified in open court that the Attorney-General had held multiple meetings with him at unusual hours and engaged in numerous phone conversations, pressuring him to alter his testimony to incriminate the Minority Leader.

“It has come to the attention of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that during the proceedings of today, Thursday, 23rd May 2024, in the matter of the trial of the Leader of the NDC Minority in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the 3rd Accused, Mr Richard Jakpa testified in open court that the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has had several meetings with him at odd hours and telephone conversations impressing on him to skew his testimony to implicate the Minority Leader”.

According to the National Democratic Congress National Chairman, the claims by the third accused were recorded in the court’s official proceedings on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Honourable Johnson Asiedu Nketiah thus expressed deep concerns over what he describes as a clear act of persecution against Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who he noted has been a prominent figure in opposing what the party considers as the “misrule of the oppressive and despotic” governance under the New Patriotic Party administration.

He emphasized that the revelation made by Mr Jakpa, the third accused person in the ambulance trial goes to confirm the party’s legitimate and long-held suspicions of the devious modus operandi of the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame and the government he represents.

Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress National Chairman, Honorable Johnson Nketiah accused the New Patriotic Party administration of employing desperate measures to manipulate judicial processes in a bid to unjustly victimize political opponents for petty political gains.

He condemned the Attorney-General’s actions as a glaring demonstration of his lack of integrity and his willingness to subvert justice.

Mr Nketiah also expressed the party’s commitment to expose the conduct of the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame through the provision of evidence by next week in a full-blown press conference, emphasizing that the forthcoming revelations would shock the nation.

He underscored the National Democratic Congress’s commitment and determination to stop at nothing in pursuing the matter to its logical conclusion and ensuring that justice is served.

Allegations Against Minority Leader Ato Forson

In another statement, Sammy Gyamfi Esq. the National Democratic Congress National Communications Officer vehemently denied claims by Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame that the NDC Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, sought his intervention to drop ongoing charges against him.

Mr Gyamfi, in his statement vehemently denied the allegations by the Attorney-General, describing them as desperate and unfounded claims.

“A drowning man will clutch to straws, and that is what Dame the pathetic liar has been reduced to.  The dishonourable Attorney General has no video evidence of the Minority Leader pleading with him to drop his trump-up charges which are falling like a pack of cards by the day”.

The NDC’s National Communications Officer further challenged Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame to produce any video evidence within 24 hours to substantiate his claim that Dr Forson had pleaded with him to drop the charges, asserting that no such evidence exists.

Moreover, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi condemned the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame over Mr Richard Jakpa, the third accused in Dr Forson’s trial revealing in open court that the Attorney-General had attempted to coerce him into falsifying his testimony to implicate the Minority Leader.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the testimony, which is now part of the court’s official records, was not denied or disputed by the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame during the proceedings.

He argued that the lack of denial on the part of the Attorney-General further underscores the validity of Mr Jakpa’s claims, highlighting the unethical conduct of the Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Breaches of Professional Conduct

Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi strongly asserted that Mr Dame’s actions violate multiple rules of the legal profession, including the Professional Conduct and Etiquette Rules 2020 (L.I 2423), specifically, rules 13, 40, and 54, which pertain to professional conduct and ethics.

In addition, Mr Gyamfi accused Mr Dame of fabricating evidence, which is equally an offence under sections 213 and 214 of the Criminal and Other Offenses Act, 1960 (ACT 29), stressing that Mr Dame’s actions would not go unpunished.
