The running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged queen mothers to take a keen interest in matters of national interest.

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, in an interaction with the Central Regional Queen Mothers’ Association at the Central Regional House of Chiefs in Cape Coast, underscored the importance for all women, particularly queen mothers to offer their utmost support towards good initiatives and to also speak out when things are not going well in the country.

“I encourage you all to be vocal on issues that affect the nation so that your presence will be felt as a force to be reckoned with in the country and the local communities. Ghana’s national and local development requires inclusiveness and effective collaboration among all stakeholders including women”.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang further stated that the presence of the queen mothers during the occasion of her inauguration as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress was a source of encouragement that signalled the bond between herself and all the queen mothers, which requires constant nurturing.

She compared her status in relation to the Queen Mothers as a student who has much to learn from them, underscoring the high expectations that her position demands of her, thereby calling on the Queen Mothers to offer their utmost support towards the National Democratic Congress in the upcoming elections.

Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang assured the queen mothers of the National Democratic Congress’s commitment to empowering the queen mothers towards their efforts in the development of their respective local communities when the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama assumed office in 2025.
