Funke Akindele Replies Critic Who Labelled Her Fat

Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele has replied to a male troll for body shaming her and her colleague, Toyin Abraham.

The troll had taken to her comment section to advise her to shed weight.

He stated that it’s unwise that she is getting fat yet feeling unbothered. He added that it is more unwise not knowing that fatness isn’t good for an actress of her kind as it would affect her role delivery.

The troll further stated that it is more unwise that many of them (celebrities) think getting fat is evidence of good living, forgetting that obesity kills and causes discomfort.

He admonished her and Toyin Abraham to lose weight as he noted how they had changed shape and signature.

“Hit gym 24hrs. Avoid junk, and limit excess sleeping. Be wise. Don’t be unwise.”

Replying to him, Funke Akindele appreciated him for the advice and insulted him. She wrote, “Yes sir. Werey Alaso.”

This isn’t the first time Funke has been shamed on social media.

Last year, Funke replied to a Twitter user who advised her to get remarried. The tweep had urged her to get remarried in 2024, pointing out how the filmmaker is getting old, and Funke responded by appreciating him for the advice, noting how he is the wedding planner.

Nollywood box office record-setter, Funke Akindele addressed her billionaire title following the misconception that trails her latest movie, A Tribe Called Judah, ATCJ, grossing over a billion naira at the box office.

Recall that Funke Akindele set a record for the Nigerian film industry as the first Nollywood film to enter a billion naira even in a short period.

Funke Akindele made over one billion naira at the box office, becoming the first Nigerian artiste to achieve such a feat.

Her movies, A Tribe Called Judah, Battle On Buka Street, and Omo Ghetto The Saga are the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time.

Shedding light on the misconceptions that she went home with the huge amount of money, the mother of two noted that she didn’t take the billions home.

She expressly told her fans that she is not a billionaire because the movie grossed a billion naira; however, she is a hustler who doesn’t relent in her work.

“Thanks, dear. I’m not a billionaire! My movie A Tribe Called Judah grossed over a billion naira. But I didn’t take the billion home o!!! I be confirmed hustler.”

Funke Akindele’s statement is a response to a fan who wished to meet her in person and the misconception that she went home with billions of naira.

Funke Akindele’s disclosure of not being a billionaire despite the success of her A Tribe Called Judah movie drew some comments from netizens.

“Aunty Funke you are a billionaire in making ❤️.”

Funke Akindele also slammed her trolls while discussing her survival in the movie industry.

She posted a message on her Instagram story and X app about how she’s not defined by any category in which she is placed.

The mother of two boys spoke about being an underdog in the industry and how she keeps pushing the boundaries in Nigerian cinema.

She further encouraged her readers not to give up on their dreams because her success is not measured by accolades but by her stories and the lives she impacts.
