The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to officially launch its campaign early next month as it gears up for the December 7 elections. This announcement was made by the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, during the Volta Regional fundraising dinner held in Accra.

Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, former President Mahama revealed, “We will launch the campaign in July after we announce the campaign team this week.” His statement underscores the party’s readiness and strategic planning as they move closer to the critical election date.

“I must assure you that after we launch the campaign, there will be no turning back until December 7, when we go to the polls to vote massively for the NDC in both Presidential and Parliamentary elections.”

“We are accelerating already. You can only drive in this country when you are licensed; the people of Ghana must license you. This is not the time to be asking for the steering wheel,” Former President Mahama remarked, alluding to the NDC’s preparedness and the legitimacy needed from the electorate to lead the country.

Former President Mahama continued by addressing the current state of the nation, describing it as being in “the abyss.” Mahama stressed the need for serious contemplation and action to change the country’s fortunes in 2025, aiming to improve the well-being of the majority of Ghanaians. His call for change resonated with the audience, many of whom are eager for a new direction in national leadership.

The Volta Region, known for its strong support for the NDC, was highlighted by Mahama as a crucial player in what he termed the ‘rescue crusade’ for the 2024 election. He encouraged all members and supporters in the region to intensify their efforts to achieve a resounding victory.

“Although we had a slight drop in terms of percentage in the last elections, I am of the strong belief that we’ll improve over it to at least 90 percent.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama

Former President Mahama took the opportunity to commend the party executives and faithful for their proactive stance and hard work. He assured them that their dedication would be rewarded on December 7. This recognition was vital in boosting the morale of those working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the party’s success.

The event was chaired by Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, an industrialist and philanthropist, who echoed Mahama’s sentiments about the need for collective effort.

Mr. Atokple emphasized the importance of unity and commitment from all members of the Volta Region to secure victory for the NDC. “No individuals or groups could achieve that objective except through total commitment from all of us,” he noted, underscoring the significance of a unified front in political campaigns.

Mr. Atokple further urged everyone present to contribute their “widow’s mite” towards the cause, highlighting the importance of even the smallest contributions in achieving the larger goal of victory. His call to action was a reminder that every effort counts in the broader scheme of the party’s campaign strategy.

As the NDC prepares to announce its campaign team and officially launch its campaign in July, the party’s supporters are gearing up for an intense and focused effort to win the upcoming elections. Mahama’s speech and the overall atmosphere at the fundraising dinner reflected a sense of urgency and determination that will likely characterize the NDC’s campaign in the coming months.

The December 7 elections are poised to be a significant event in Ghana’s political landscape, and the NDC is positioning itself as a formidable contender. With Mahama’s leadership and the party’s strategic preparations, the coming months will undoubtedly be a critical period for both the NDC and the nation as a whole. The campaign launch will mark the beginning of an intense political battle, with the NDC aiming to rally its base and win the trust of the Ghanaian electorate.
