Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cautions Ghanaians against the NPP’s 2024 slogan, “It is possible”, stating that the ruling party lacks the credibility to fulfill its promises.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang lambasted the NPP’s poor performance, pointing to recent events as proof of their failure to honor their promises.
She cited the example of pensioner bondholders, who are picketing at the Finance Ministry, demanding the release of their funds, as a stark reminder of the government’s failure to manage the economy and prioritize the welfare of its citizens.
She implored Ghanaians to carefully scrutinize the NPP’s promises, critically evaluating their credibility and track record of delivery, before making informed decisions at the polls.
“At a time of different haircuts, and at a time old people picketing at the ministry of finance…at that time they also thought that none of this will happen, they didn’t even imagine that it is possible. But that has been possible, so when you hear about it is possible, think about it. It is possible to picket at the Ministry of Finance, it’s possible to have a different style or haircut”.

She vehemently refuted criticisms of the NDC’s perceived lack of ideas and vision, pointing to the party’s robust manifesto and its team of experienced and dedicated leaders as evidence of its readiness to govern effectively.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang stressed that when the NDC calls its manifesto a “people’s manifesto”, it is not just rhetoric, but a solemn pledge to prioritize the needs and interests of the citizenry, unlike the NPP’s hollow promises.
“I keep saying that you can just shut a couple of us in a room for a couple of weeks and we can draft one for you nicely. But for whom are you doing the manifesto? Does it include journalists? Yes, it includes journalists of many areas of focus.
“But what about the women? What is worrying them that we have to know? And if you don’t talk to them as a group, how will you know? It’s not that you lack ideas, no, those are childish. We’re a serious party. That is why we’re engaging all of you”.

Mahama Calls for Serious Leadership, Decries Trivialization of Presidency
Meanwhile, John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s 2024 presidential candidate, stressed that the presidency is a solemn responsibility that demands a capable and competent leader.

He underscored the gravity of the challenges confronting Ghanaians and emphasized that the 2024 election is a serious matter that requires sober reflection, not frivolous jokes and comedy.
The former President lamented the trivialization of the presidency in political campaigns, citing the ridiculous gesture of handing over a symbolic steer as a prime example of the mockery made of the highest office in the land.
“Ghanaians are in dire straits and this is not the time for comedy. This is not for a concert party about passing the mythical steer to somebody. There is no space for stale falsehoods and gaslighting. It is unimaginable the narrative by some people that they have championed everything under this government”.
John Dramani Mahama
He emphasized that the presidency is a solemn responsibility that demands gravity and seriousness, particularly in light of the unprecedented challenges Ghanaians are currently grappling with.
John Mahama criticized Vice President Dr. Bawumia for selectively taking credit for the NPP government’s achievements while conveniently dodging accountability for its failures and instances of poor governance.
John Mahama emphasized that hollow slogans like “it is possible” and deceitful tactics have no relevance in Ghana’s contemporary political landscape, where substance and transparency are paramount.
He declared that the Ghanaian people would no longer accept or condone such behavior and that they demand a higher standard of leadership and integrity from their politicians.
“It is simply not tenable and an insult to the intelligence of the electorates and the presidency cannot be presented to those who present themselves as the future when they have been at the epicenter of our disastrous present”.
