Broadcaster Fires Auntie Naa Following Heated Interview With Yaw Sarpong’s Wife

Nana Yaa Brefo

Ghanaian media icon, Nana Yaa Brefo has voiced her disdain for Auntie Naa’s interviewing methods, especially when discussing marital problems over the radio.

She has pointed out that certain of Auntie Naa’s actions on the Oyerepa Afutuo show are improper and inconsistent with media norms.

Yaa Brefo brought attention to a particular instance on live radio in which Auntie Naa urged a victim of rape to smack the offender, a move Yaa Brefo denounces as maltreatment and violence.

Burna Boy Worried Over Small Crowd at Wireless Festival

“I have reservations about Auntie Naa, but I appreciate some aspects of her work. I’ve watched her show where the victim of rape was in the studio with the perpetrator. During the live broadcast, she told the girl to slap the male. That is totally incorrect and amounts to assault and abuse.

“Once the perpetrator has admitted his mistake, it is improper to continue acting in this manner. The girl was being urged to slap the man by Auntie Naa. This is a speech with an emotional bent, not journalism. Additionally, making fun of them on the radio is completely inappropriate and wrong.”

Nana Yaa Brefo

Yaa Brefo questioned Auntie Naa’s choice to go forward with the broadcast despite being aware of Yaw Sarpong’s health issues concerning the interview with Sarpong’s wife.

“Yaw Sarpong’s wife had the option to decide not to air the interview because she was aware of the problems in advance. Being well aware that Sarpong is dealing with health problems.”

Certain public members have expressed their disapproval of the interview, arguing that it was pointless and ought not to have been done.

Okatakyie Angrily Fires Auntie Naa

Media personality, Okatakyie Afrifa criticized Oyerpa FM Journalist, Auntie Naa for her approach to marital issues on her radio program, Oyerepa Afutuo.

He argued that Auntie Naa’s methods lack professionalism, adding that it is likely to damage the media’s reputation in Ghana.

Okatakyie accused her of inciting controversy for headlines rather than resolving conflicts, which he believes goes against true media ethics and negatively affects society.

“Unprofessional people sit on the radio without any iota of knowledge in solving marital issues and turn themselves into judges of morality. They are breaking homes and National Security will not even have an idea about the implications of what is happening on social media in the name of radio programs.

“Even in court, matrimonial cases are handled differently. When divorcing couples, we do it in such a way that there will be peace for the father to cater for the children afterward. Someone should tell me a single marital issue Auntie Naa has been able to resolve.”

Okatakyie Afrifa

He further noted that this “nonsense” must stop, adding that people are talking because it concerns Yaw Sarpong.

“Do you know the kind of homes she is breaking in the country?” Okatakyie Afrifa quizzed.

His comments follow an interview where Yaw Sarpong’s wife, Adwoa Penamang, disclosed to Auntie Naa how the family has mistreated and neglected her since her husband’s illness began.

Social media users who thronged the video’s comment section agreed with Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah about his comments about Auntie Naa’s program.

“Guys let’s be serious for once! How many of us would want our private issues aired on TV? The radio show host herself has also got issues at home like we all have but she won’t bring it on the radio.”

@SannieDaara

“For years you people never saw an issue with the problem and some even made jokes with the program, because people who were sent there weren’t popular and didn’t have blood running down their veins until the program touched your stars. Ebi God dey watch you all hypocrites.”

@LetThemSay100

“He is telling the truth. The Antie Naa show is causing more harm than good. Antie Naa a divorced woman now counseling marriages. The society should sit up because these people are there to break homes not to help us. Sometimes we need time to heal. We should rise up Ghana.”
