Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team has highlighted the substantial impact of the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative on job creation in Ghana.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye asserted that the program has significantly contributed to reducing the country’s unemployment rate by creating nearly 170,000 jobs both directly and indirectly.

The 1D1F program, a flagship initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aims to establish at least one factory in each of Ghana’s districts.

“This government’s 1D1F initiative since its commencement has created 25,318 direct jobs. The indirect jobs created mount to 144,552 and they combine to give us 169,870, between 2017 and 2024.”

This initiative seeks to spur industrial growth and create employment opportunities for the local population. According to Aboagye, the program has made remarkable strides since its inception, with a significant number of factories either completed or under construction.

In what he described as a scoreboard between the ruling NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Aboagye criticized the NDC’s track record in industrialization. He claimed that the NDC’s performance from 2009 to 2016 was dismal in comparison to the achievements of the current administration.

“Between 2009 and 2016, the NDC could only manage to put up 5 factories. They completed these 5 factories. These 5 factories could only create 558 direct and indirect jobs. This is a complete failure on the part of the then NDC government.”

Aboagye further broke down the employment figures under the NDC, highlighting that the five factories established by the NDC created only 220 direct jobs and 338 indirect jobs. He argued that this starkly contrasted the robust industrialization efforts and job creation under the NPP’s 1D1F program.

Call for Continuation of the NPP’s Industrialization Agenda

Aboagye urged Ghanaians to retain the NPP in power to ensure the continuation of the industrialization drive initiated under the 1D1F program. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum in order to expand the local manufacturing sector, increase employment, and enhance the country’s export capacity.

“We can also employ additional hands with the expansion of the 1D1F program. If the NDC comes to power, these factories under construction would be stalled whereas those fully operational would be allowed to collapse.”

The 1D1F initiative is seen as a cornerstone of the NPP’s broader economic strategy to diversify Ghana’s economy, reduce dependence on imports, and boost local production. By fostering industrialization at the district level, the program aims to utilize local resources, reduce rural-urban migration, and stimulate economic growth in various regions.

Despite the positive outlook, the 1D1F program faces several challenges, including financing, infrastructure development, and ensuring the sustainability of the newly established factories. The government, in partnership with the private sector, continues to address these challenges through various support mechanisms, including financial incentives, technical assistance, and infrastructure development.

“The success of the 1D1F program depends on the continuous support and participation of all stakeholders, including the government, private sector, and the citizenry. Together, we can build a resilient and prosperous industrial sector that creates jobs and drives economic growth.”

Looking ahead, Aboagye expressed optimism about the future of the 1D1F program and its potential to transform Ghana’s industrial landscape. He reiterated the need for sustained political commitment and public support to realize the full benefits of the initiative.
