Ghanaian Legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has disclosed that his late wife, Evelyn Ampaw, battled a serious illness before her passing.

He revealed that medical professionals diagnosed his late wife with lung cancer and pneumonia, but she chose not to inform him about her condition until she passed away.

The legal practitioner noticed that before her death, his wife began to distance herself from the family, including their twin children, which was out of character for her.

Maurice Ampaw suggested that his late wife’s decision to keep her illness a secret from him likely worsened the fatal diseases that ultimately led to her death.

“Before her passing, she was very involved with our twin children, but as her health declined, she started to distance herself from them. Initially, she didn’t want me to take the twins out, but that changed over time. I couldn’t understand her behavior until she passed away. When I visited her in the hospital, she avoided eye contact, remained silent, and eventually fell asleep.”

Evelyn Ampaw passed away in February 2021.

Maurice Ampaw went on to explain that he remarried a year after his wife’s death to a close friend whom he had known for many years.

However, the legal practitioner revealed that he could have been a pastor if not for the influence of women, which he believes the devil used as a weapon against him.

Ampaw disclosed that he had the calling and anointing to be a man of God, and that not becoming a pastor is the only thing his mother is disappointed about.

“That is the weapon used to attack me. It is my little weakness; if I was loose, it would have been too much,” Ampaw explained.

The legal practitioner also declared himself one of the most formidable lawyers in the country, boasting an impressive track record of winning over 300 cases.

“I am one of the strongest lawyers in this country. The things I have accomplished here, no lawyer born of a woman can match. The fights I take on are the ones others shy away from.

“I have also made a mark on social media. I have won over 300 cases, including human rights cases for clients like Chairman Wontumi, and Sarah Koblah, among others.”

Legal Practitioner Explains His Controversial Confrontation With Manhyia Palace

Maurice Ampaw opened up about his controversial confrontation with the Manhyia Palace, the revered seat of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Recall that in January 2024, Maurice Ampaw was summoned by the Manhyia Palace over some comments he made comparing himself to the Asantehene.

Despite his refusal to honor the summons, Maurice Ampaw later offered an apology for his comments.

Maurice Ampaw, known for his outspoken nature, defended his actions, stating that he intended to protect Chairman Wontumi from political attacks that sought to tarnish his reputation and undermine his chairmanship.

Despite the claims that he had made derogatory comments, Maurice Ampaw denied any disrespect towards the Palace.

He explained that he took on the battle for Wontumi, who had been alienated from the Palace, and in doing so, intentionally made some comments to become the center of attention and shield Wontumi from further scrutiny.

“Wontumi was a lone ranger … I told him I would fight his battle for him. I told him he was an Ashanti, but I am both Akyem and Akuapem. The worst they can do is ban me. So I did my research. I decided to throw a bomb. After the things I said, Wontumi’s problem became small, and the focus moved to me.”

Maurice Ampaw

He justified his decision not to appear before the Palace by stating that he was not a ‘pushover’.

“I decided to apologize because I was rude. People expected me to be summoned by the Palace. I had done my homework. It would have been of no help if I had gone there. I am a lawyer, not a pushover. I have evidence of what I said if they ask for it, and it would cause problems. So I didn’t go.”

Maurice Ampaw

Maurice Ampaw confirmed that he has since been forgiven by the Palace, closing a chapter on what had been a significant issue.
