NPP Govt In Denial, Says Mahama

President John Mahama's 120-day assessment.

President John Dramani Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of being out of touch with reality and living in a state of denial.

During the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale, John Mahama pointed out that the government’s expectation of praise for its handling of the economy, despite clear indicators of mismanagement such as a high exchange rate and inflation, is a misguided notion.

“…If that is not an illusion then I don’t know what illusion is. But that is the beauty of democracy. It gives us the opportunity every four years to make a change. And the time has come for us to make a change…to reset Ghana. And I believe that four years is enough to do the reset of Ghana”.

“We will reset this country so that future generations can come and build on that foundation. Our intention is to ameliorate the damage that has been done. When we come, those who unjustifiably had their banking licenses withdrawn, we shall restore their licenses to them so that we can create more employment”.

He expressed further concern about the devastating impact of the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program on vulnerable groups, particularly pensioners, whose livelihoods have been severely affected, as well as the middle class, who have seen their hard-earned savings significantly eroded.

Mahama emphasized that the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP) has put the future of pensioners, in particular, at risk, as many of them can no longer afford healthcare due to reduced resources, which is a compelling reason why the current government should be voted out of office.

“Come December, we must take the decision that will change the trajectory of our country”. – John Dramani Mahama

He encouraged all eligible voters to cast their ballots on December 7th 2024, sending a strong message to the world that Ghanaians are a serious and discerning people who recognize the need for a new direction and are determined to shape a better future for their country.

Mahama promised that the next NDC administration will revive the aspirations of young people and create avenues for their growth and development, urging citizens to remain optimistic and not give up hope.

Mahama Vows To Complete Constitutional Reform

Moreover, John Dramani Mahama committed that the next NDC government will prioritize the completion of the amendment process of the 1992 Constitution, a reform initiative that was initiated during the tenure of the late President Atta-Mills.

Mahama declared that the next NDC government will transform the Constitution into a dynamic and forward-looking document, propelling Ghana towards progress, by specifically targeting and amending outdated provisions that are hindering the nation’s advancement.

“We know that the vast majority of our people want our District Chief Executives to be elected so that they hold them accountable. We will look at the work that the constitutional review committee did and I think that in four years can forge the consensus that will amend the Constitution and make it a better document for us”.

“Another aspect of governance will be to strengthen the institutions. We are going to work with the judiciary [and] parliament so that we can strengthen these institutions in order that they can be the bulwark of our democracy”.

John Dramani Mahama

He further assured that his government will hold accountable those individuals in the current administration who have engaged in scandals and misappropriation of resources, ensuring that they are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He emphasized that this election presents a final chance for Ghanaians to rescue and revitalize their democracy, warning that individuals aspiring to join the next NDC administration must be prepared to serve with humility and transparency, as the new government will be built on the principles of modesty and accountability.

Accordingly, he stressed that the principle of accountability will be applied equally and impartially, meaning that just as the current government officials will be held to account for their wrongdoings, so too will any future NDC government officials be expected to answer for their actions if they are accused of misconduct.

“NDC has the men and the women. And it is not like what NPP said, ‘we have the men’ and we didn’t know they were area boys. NDC has capable men and women capable of turning our fortunes around. Our first priority is going to be job creation so that we create jobs for the youths of this country”.

John Dramani Mahama

Mahama emphasized that the NDC aims to accelerate development by implementing a 24-hour economy policy, with a strong emphasis on revitalizing the agricultural sector, to drive growth and transformation.
