NDC Youth Lauds Party Chairman for Prioritizing Peace and Justice

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, NDC National Chairman

The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bono East Region has expressed deep appreciation to the party’s National Chairman, Honorable Johnson Asiedu Nketia, for his unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and justice in Ghana’s electoral processes.

The Youth Wing’s statement, signed by the Bono East Regional Youth Organizer, Samari Abdulai, highlighted the significant role that the youth played in the previous general elections, where they witnessed firsthand the violence and irregularities that marred the process.

“The tragic events in Techiman South, where innocent lives were lost – Abdalla Ayarek and Tajudin – remain a scar on our collective conscience. The lack of accountability and concrete action from both the Security Council and the government is deeply troubling and erodes public trust in our democratic processes”.

The statement praised the National Chairman of the opposition party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia for his leadership in prioritizing the safety and security of Ghanaians, particularly in the face of the tragic events that unfolded in Techiman South.

Highlighting the implication of the electoral violence, Samari Abdulai warned that the failure to hold perpetrators accountable risks eroding public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes.

He pointed out that the pursuit of peace cannot be separated from the pursuit of justice, strongly backing the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s demand for answers and accountability.

Prevention of Future Electoral Violence

The Bono East Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress further stressed that the position and actions of the party’s National Chairman are crucial to preventing a repeat of the tragedies that occurred during the last election.

Additionally, Samari Abdulai posited that the youth of Bono East, and every part of the country deserve to exercise their democratic rights free from fear, intimidation, or violence.

In a call to action, the National Democratic Congress Youth Wing in the Bono East Region led by Samari Abdulai urged all stakeholders—including the government, security agencies, political parties, the National Peace Council, and civil society organizations—to prioritize transparency and dialogue.

He called for a genuine commitment to upholding the rule of law as the country approaches another electoral cycle.

He opined that the signing of a Peace Pact must go beyond mere formality and be rooted in a sincere pledge to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections.

The Bono East Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Samari Abdulai also expressed the party’s youth, particularly within his region readiness to engage constructively in seeking justice for the victims of electoral violence in the region.

He called on all political parties and relevant authorities to treat the concerns raised by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia with the seriousness and dedication they deserve, emphasizing that the future of Ghana’s democracy depends on it.

This strong show of support from the Bono East NDC Youth Wing underscores the opposition party’s commitment to demanding for accountability and justice in maintaining peace as the country gears up for another general election.

This commendation comes in the wake of the opposition party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s firm stance that accountability and justice must be prerequisites for the signing of peace pact ahead of the December 7 polls.

The National Chairman of the NDC, in a latest remarks, pointed out the party’s stance, setting forth specific conditions that must be met before the NDC would consider signing the peace agreement.

His scepticism towards the peace pacts stems from what he described as their failure to produce tangible outcomes, particularly in holding accountable those responsible for the violence against NDC members.
