The People’s National Convention (PNC) has officially closed nominations for its upcoming party Congress, scheduled for Saturday, marking the beginning of the vetting process for candidates vying for various key positions within the party.

This development signifies a crucial step in the party’s organizational efforts as it prepares to rejuvenate its leadership ahead of the December 7 upcoming elections.

In a statement released by the Congress Committee, the opposition party announced that the vetting process would take place over two days, with Thursday and Friday set aside for this critical phase.

“A total of 17 aspirants have submitted their applications, and they have been divided into two groups to facilitate a smooth vetting process”.

According to the Congress Committee’s statement, the first group of aspirants will face the vetting panel between on Thursday, while the second group will be assessed on Friday.

This structured approach, the Congress Committee noted aims to ensure a thorough evaluation of all candidates.

The Race to PNC’s Flagbearership

Among the prominent figures seeking to lead the People’s National Convention into the next election cycle are Bernard Anbataayela Mornah and David Apasera, both of whom have entered the race for the coveted flagbearer position.

The Chairmanship race has also attracted notable contenders, with Hajia Hajara Ali and Asaki Awingobit both submitting their forms for vetting.

The position of Chairman is seen as a pivotal role, responsible for steering the party’s strategic direction and unifying its ranks ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The contest for General Secretary, a role crucial for the party’s administrative operations, will see a showdown between Awudu Ishak and Yakubu Fahrudeen.

Both candidates are expected to bring their unique experiences and vision to the table, making this race one to watch closely.

In the race for the National Organiser position, Abass Nuhu and Daniel Nii Noi Osekine are set to compete, each aiming to enhance the party’s grassroots mobilization efforts.

This role is particularly important as the PNC seeks to expand its influence and increase its support base across the country.

For the Women’s Organiser position, Christiana Fugah and Esther Osei will go head-to-head, each aspiring to play a key role in galvanizing the party’s female membership and ensuring their voices are heard within the party’s decision-making processes.

The Youth Organiser race will feature Mark Ewusi Arko and Alidu Mohammed Nasirdeen, both of whom are vying to lead the party’s youth wing and inspire a new generation of PNC supporters.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Akazabre is the sole candidate for the Treasurer position, seeking to oversee the party’s financial health and resource management.

Other Aspiring Candidates

Several candidates are also contesting for deputy roles within the party. Martin Anafo and Eugene Tamado Koffikan Bashiru are running for Vice Chairman, while Prince K. Agyeman-Duah is aiming for the Assistant Secretary position.

Again, Saeed Abdallah is in the running for Assistant Organiser, and Narrita Mary Logah is contesting for Deputy Women’s Organiser.

The Congress Committee, in concluding its statement, expressed optimism about the upcoming vetting process.

“We look forward to a transparent, democratic, and successful vetting process, which will pave the way for our national congress and ultimately determine the fate of our party’s leadership” the Congress Committee assured.
