McBrown Pleads With US Embassy Over Deportation

Nana Ama McBrown

Celebrated Ghanaian actress and TV personality, Nana Ama McBrown has issued a plea to the Embassy of the United States of America in Ghana to lift her ban on traveling to the US.

According to her, she was deported from America in 2001 and a travel ban was imposed on her by the embassy. However, she did not reveal the reason for which she was deported.

The celebrated actress appealed to the American Embassy to consider lifting the travel ban imposed on her following the incident over two decades ago.

“And I’m begging them. Please American Embassy, consider me again. When you look at my record, I’m not a bad person. I’ve never been a bad person. Because I really knew what I’ve done, and I wanted to correct it.”

Nana Ama McBrown

Nana Ama McBrown also urged Ghanaians to be genuine and refrain from forging documents to secure visas for travel. She cautioned that the records would be there and inhibit future opportunities if they fail to be authentic.

“It’s true that I didn’t know about it. There is this thing about Ghanaians that when we are going to the embassy, even now, we are very scared. We start shaking and for that matter, we keep lying. So I will use this opportunity to say that if you are going to the embassy, things have changed more than my time.”

She further noted that Ghanaians should ensure to do the right thing.

“Now fingerprints… are there. Now if I go and they don’t give me, I’m very okay. If they give me, I’ll be very happy because I’m coming genuinely now. And I’m saying that to everybody, go genuinely because the records will be there forever. And if you keep lying, it will go against you.”

Nana Ama McBrown expressed her concerns about the current state of the Ghanaian movie industry.

According to her, the industry is alive and vibrant with full of potential but the only part dead is the marketing avenues.

She also disclosed that wealthy investors withdrew their investments and left the movie industry for the creatives to seek alternative ways of distributing their movies as they were not conversant with the technological advancements happening worldwide in the past.

McBrown who has been a prominent figure in Ghana’s entertainment scene for over two decades, emphasized that the passion and talent within the industry are as strong as ever.

However, she noted that the infrastructure to promote and distribute Ghanaian movies has significantly deteriorated.

“The Ghanaian movie industry is very much alive,” McBrown stated.

“Our filmmakers are still producing quality content, and our actors are delivering stellar performances. But the platforms and opportunities that are used to market our movies to a broader audience have collapsed. This has severely limited our reach and impact.”

Nana Ama McBrown

McBrown highlighted the lack of investment in marketing. She also pointed out that while offering new opportunities, local producers have not fully leveraged the digital revolution to promote Ghanaian films on a global scale.

“The world is moving towards digital platforms, but we are lagging. We need to adapt and embrace these new avenues if we want our industry to thrive,” she added.

The actress called on stakeholders to invest in the movie industry and revitalize the marketing channels that once made Ghanaian films household names across Africa and beyond.

She also urged the younger generation of filmmakers to innovate and explore new ways to distribute and promote their work.
