Russia has launched further deadly strikes on Ukraine with missiles and drones.

This came a day after Moscow carried out a “massive” attack on Ukraine’s power grid.

The spate of Russian attacks comes amid a Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory in the Kursk region.

At least four people were killed overnight in Ukraine by the Russian attacks, two in southeastern Zaporizhzhia and two in the central city of Kryvyi Rih after a missile struck a hotel.

The hotel strike in Kryvyi Rih injured five people.

Serhiy Lisak, a regional official, said that one of those injured in the Kryvyi Rih hotel strike, a 43-year-old woman, was in a critical condition in hospital. Another two people were missing, and might still be under the rubble, he said in a post on Telegram.

Ukrainian authorities issued new air raid alerts across the country as Russian bombers took to the skies.

Ukraine’s air force confirmed the “takeoff of several Tu-95MS [bombers] from the Engels airfield” in western Russia, prompting air raid alerts across the country.

The Kyiv region’s air defence systems were deployed several times overnight to repel missiles and drones targeting Kyiv.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration stated that Ukrainian air defences shot down about 15 drones and several missiles near the Ukrainian capital during Russia’s overnight attack.

In a post on X, Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent condolences to the relatives of those killed and injured in Russia’s overnight attacks.

“Unfortunately, despite the effective work of our air defense, 4 people were killed and 16 were injured. My condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” he said.

He also posted a video that appeared to show victims being pulled from the rubble by first responders.

“Rescue operations are ongoing at the sites of strikes and falling debris in the regions of Ukraine that were attacked by Russia last night. All services are on the ground, and the rubble is being cleared,” his post read.

“In total, the enemy used over 90 aerial targets against civilians and infrastructure: 81 Shahed drones, as well as cruise, ballistic, and air-launched ballistics missiles.

“We will undoubtedly respond to Russia for this and all other attacks. Crimes against humanity cannot go unpunished.”

Meanwhile, Russia’s ministry of defence said that its forces had captured the village of Orlivka in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine and Russia have fought over Orlivka since the fall of Avdiivka to Russian forces in February. Orlivka is about six miles from the city of Avdiivka.

Reports Of Ukrainian Incursions Into Belgorod Issued

Also on Tuesday, there were unconfirmed reports from Russian Telegram channels, that there were further attempts of Ukrainian incursions into Russia at other points along the border, in Belgorod region, on Tuesday morning.

According to the Mash Telegram channel said roughly 500 Ukrainian troops were attacking two checkpoints at Nekhoteyevka and Shebekino in Belgorod, and battles were raging in both areas.

Belgorod borders the Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops have seized Russian territory since staging a lightning incursion on 6 August.

Belgorod Oblast Governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram that “information has appeared that the enemy is trying to break through the border.”

“According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the situation at the border remains difficult, but controllable,” his post read.

He added, “Our military is carrying out planned work. Please remain calm and trust only official sources of information.”

Gladkov also said that Ukraine attacked the region with more than 20 drones in the last 24 hours.
