The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has publicly declared the Youth Wing’s full support for the recent comments made by Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea, the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South constituency.

The MP’s remarks referred to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, as a “drunkard,” a statement that has sparked significant controversy.

In their press release, the NPP Youth Wing emphasized that the criticism leveled against John Mahama did not originate from their party but from within the NDC itself.

“The tag on John Dramani Mahama as a drunk, did not come from the NPP but from the NDC. Its top brass, Dr. Kwabena Duffour was the one who told the NDC delegates not to vote for John Dramani Mahama in their presidential primaries and that he had a serious and chronic alcohol addiction problem.”

The Youth Wing argued that Atta Akyea’s comments were merely reiterating concerns already raised by Mahama’s own party members.

Salam Mustapha stated, “Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea spoke nothing but the truth in line with this revelation from a top NDC member, and so why should he apologize?”

The NPP Youth Wing’s press release comes in response to a demand from the NDC for an apology. The NDC, through its General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, condemned Atta Akyea’s comment and called for an immediate retraction and apology.

However, the NPP Youth Wing vehemently opposed this demand, asserting that no apology is warranted and expressing unwavering support for the MP’s statement.

The NPP Youth Wing’s press release also took aim at the NDC’s perceived hypocrisy in demanding an apology.

“There are too many videos of him [Fiifi Kwetey] insulting the presidential candidate of the NPP Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and even his wife – Hajia Samira Bawumia. We are surprised that he mustered such moral audacity to sign and release such a crap.”

The Youth Wing also referenced recent comments by the NDC’s National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, who in an interview called Dr. Bawumia a liar and insinuated that he was an “idiot.”

The NPP Youth Wing highlighted the fact that no one from the NDC, including John Mahama, had condemned these remarks, accusing the NDC leadership of endorsing such “stupid and reckless” statements.

In light of these incidents, the NPP Youth Wing made it clear that they would not tolerate any attempt to single out their party members for criticism while ignoring similar or worse behavior from the NDC. They vowed to “return fire for fire” and to defend their presidential candidate against any unjust attacks.

“Our presidential candidate is a human being too with blood running in his veins just like their demigod that they seek to protect. We will not allow the NDC to turn him into their punching bag.”

Salam Mustapha, National Youth Organizer of the NPP

The Youth Wing reiterated its readiness for the upcoming elections and their commitment to standing firm in the face of any provocations from the NDC. They emphasized that the NPP would respond in kind to any further attempts by the NDC to attack their candidate, making it clear that they would not back down.

The press release from the NPP Youth Wing signaled a fierce determination to support their party and its candidates as the election season heats up. By standing behind Hon. Samuel Atta Akyea’s controversial remarks, the Youth Wing has drawn a clear line in the sand, signaling that they are prepared to engage in a robust and uncompromising political battle.
